Job Title: Writing Center Instructor

Job Summary
The Writing Center Instructor is to develop confidence and proficiency in writing through personalized consultations, peer assistance, and collaboration with faculty.
Foster an inclusive learning environment to equip students with academic writing capabilities, responsible use of technology, and information literacy, preparing them for various university assignments.
Ensure all activities support the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, research, and lifelong learning skills, aligning with the Writing Centre’s objectives.
Responsibilities
Mentor students through brainstorming, outlining, thesis development, revision, and ethical writing practices.
Provide one-on-one consultations on diverse writing assignments, referencing styles, and research tools.
Offer constructive feedback on grammar, mechanics, clarity, organization, and responsible research.
Model strong writing practices and suggest relevant resources like e-library databases, credible search engines, and responsible technology use.
Cultivate a positive learning environment that celebrates diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
Track consultation data and contribute to reports for continuous improvement, measuring student outcomes, and evaluating interventions.
Collaborate with colleagues and faculty to provide feedback, identify students needing support, and develop student success strategies.
Attend meetings to discuss instructional alignment, program development, and service adaptation.
Continuously develop professionally through training.
Contribute to developing Writing Center resources, workshops, and website content.
Demonstrate a willingness to take on new tasks supporting the Writing Center's mission and interdepartmental initiatives (as assigned by the Director).
Manage schedules, set goals, develop action plans, monitor progress, and maintain confidentiality.
Work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and stakeholders.
Requirements for the Position
Master’s Degree in English Language, Literature in English, Linguistics, English for Specific Purposes, Education, Communications, or a related field.
Experience in academic settings, editing, or tutoring writing.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to build rapport with diverse populations.
Ability to work independently while adhering to university policies.
Dedication to student success, fostering positive learning environments, and responsible technology integration.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and video conferencing applications.
Commitment to academic integrity, professionalism, ethical reasoning, and intercultural integration.
Other requirements / Abilities for the Position:
Experience working with multilingual learners.
Experience using online learning platforms.
Experience developing and delivering (writing) workshops and seminars (in-person and online).
Experience working effectively under pressure.
Ability to develop grant proposals for Writing Center projects.
