Draft, review, and negotiate medium to high-risk transaction agreements including acquisition and funding agreements, oil & and gas industry related agreements, power sector related agreements, and construction and infrastructure agreements
Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to stay up to date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards about legal, compliance, and risk management, especially new and emerging legislation which affects the various operating companies within the Sahara Group and provide proactive guidance to internal stakeholders including business leaders and executive management.
Develop, review, and enhance company policies, procedures, and programs to ensure alignment with legal requirements and industry best practices.
Provide guidance and support to internal teams regarding compliance matters, risk assessments, and potential legal implications of business decisions.
High-risk Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate potential legal risks and develop effective risk management strategies.
Engage and work closely with external legal counsel and regulatory authorities when necessary.
Provide litigation support to external legal counsel and assist with management oversight of external legal counsel.
Take lead or support on transactions and assignments as requested.
Conduct training/learning sessions and workshops to educate employees across the organization on pertinent legal issues.
Engage, build, and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders as well as attend meetings with external stakeholders including representing the organization at panels of enquiries set up by public/regulatory bodies.
Support the organization, operating companies and legal team with other tasks and projects as needed.
Requirements
Strong knowledge of Nigerian laws and regulations, corporate commercial law as well as regulatory compliance.
Strong knowledge of laws, regulations, and industry standards related to the Energy Sector (oil & gas and power), construction & infrastructure.
Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
Strong IT Skills, including proficiency with Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.
Ability to work as part of a team and with both internal and external stakeholders with diverse cultural backgrounds.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong commercial awareness and ability to apply commercial solutions to legal problems
Experience in working with regulators.
Law degree from a commonwealth jurisdiction.
Bachelor of Law or relevant law degree from an accredited law school and admission to the Nigerian Bar.
At least 10 years post call experience, a majority of which must be core Oil and Gas experience in a reputable law firm or commercial Oil and Gas environment.
Geographical mobility within and outside Nigeria where necessary.
