Job Title: Assistant Professor of Physics

Job Summary
The Assistant Professor of Physics will be responsible for teaching, research and community service as may be requested by the Chair/Dean.
The candidates contribute to preparing students to be applied, critical thinkers and problem solvers through innovative teaching and research.
S/he will work closely with the Department Chair and the Dean of the school in formulating and implementing course structures that would translate to effective teaching and learning of courses in line with the development philosophy of the American University of Nigeria.
Responsibilities
Teaching: The primary responsibility of a faculty member is teaching and supporting student learning both inside and outside the classroom.
Research: Faculty members are to engage in research activities that will promote teaching, self-development, the University and the community.
Community Service: Faculty are to contribute to AUN community service and development activities
Class Attendance : Faculty members should make clear that students are expected to attend class and complete required assignments.
Academic Advising: Available to assist students throughout the semester.
Department/Schools Meetings: Attending meetings on a regular basis and as necessary to facilitate communication and to accomplish the work required for the smooth operation of the department and school.
Attendance at Academic Functions: Full-time faculty members are expected to attend meetings of the faculty and any all-college meetings called by AUN administration.
Requirements
PhD in Physics.
Experience in teaching petro physics, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and petroleum geochemistry would be an added advantage.
Experience in problem centered approach to teaching and learning.
Record of publication in peer-reviewed physics journals.
Relevant teaching and research experience at a reputable University
Knowledge of relevant VLE technologies
Excellent knowledge of ICT tools and e-resources for teaching and research
A strong record of academic publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals commensurate with career stage.
Other requirements, abilities for the position:
Experience in Africa or other parts of the developing world is a plus.
