Job Title: Clinical Supervisor

Job Purpose
Under the guidance of the Medical Activity Manager, role ensures medical activities for patients and/or target population are planned and implemented in accordance with the project profile, context, INTERSOS protocols, strategy and to universal hygiene standards taking into consideration quality and continuity of care. The role further ensures the supervision and training of medical staff.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the MAM, s/he will provide professional technical advice on project design, planning, administration, monitoring and evaluation of Nutrition and Health programme/project activities, data analysis and progress reporting, and enhancing teamwork and capacity building in order to ensure the delivery of quality medical care for patients and their communities as well as to improve the health condition of the target population.
Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, existing and validated protocols, values, and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiary’s health conditions.
Management of the Health and Nutrition Program Clinic:
Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out outpatient and/or inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting protocols in targeted Health Facilities and in mobile clinic activities.
Knows and ensures all medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control.
Ensure professional confidentiality is respected.
To assess and make the necessary arrangements for patients who need advanced care that is not available at INTERSOS health facility and have to be referred.
Management:
Participate in the development of health and nutrition sector budgets and following up on their effective implementation.
Follow and implement health and nutrition sector work plans for all the INTERSOS health and nutrition grants.
Supervise and coordinate the implementation and monitoring of health and nutrition project activities.
Conduct health and nutritional surveillance in the program sites, including host community and internally displaced persons (IDPs) based on agreed methodologies including surveys, process monitoring, SMART, SQUEAC and other rapid methods.
Work with the field-based health and nutrition staff and community health Volunteers to establish, implement and monitor community-based management of acute malnutrition activities, coupled with patient follow up, referrals and education for their better management at community level.
Coordinate with other INTERSOS departments and implementing partners to develop training curricula and implementation plans for community Health Volunteers (CHV’s).
Assist in response and management of any health and nutrition emergency and participate in the development of disaster preparedness systems.
Promote mother infant and young child feeding best practices in various health facilities.
Oversee implementation and integration of comprehensive growth monitoring program/Mass MUAC screenings at community level and report accordingly.
Participate actively in planned program Rapid Health and Nutrition assessment/surveys.
Monitoring and supervising INTERSOS Staff seconded to INTERSOS to ensure work is performed efficiently.
Routinely monitor staff performance according to their job description and provide written feedback in a timely manner.
Oversee continuous training programs for the health and nutrition staff.
Review personnel issues and concerns of health and nutrition staff and assist with determining and implementing solutions.
Participate in recruitment of health and nutrition staff as appropriate.
Participate in the management of field pharmacies in coordination with the INTERSOS pharmacy unit.
Supervise the use of materials, equipment and supplies for the intervention.
Identify opportunities for program development
Position Requirements
Professional Requirements:
Bachelor's University Degree in Medicine.
Minimum of 2 years post qualifying experience with at least 1-year work experience as clinician in a Humanitarian/emergency context
Previous experience in health/nutrition projects desired.
Personal Requirements:
Local language knowledge desirable- Hausa, Kanuri and English
Good management of stress and willing to work in a volatile context.
Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
Teamwork, commitment, cooperation, and Behavioural flexibility.
