About the Role
We are in search of a highly skilled Senior Government Relations Advisor (National Assembly, Abuja).
This role involves high-level strategic advisory responsibilities with an emphasis on cultivating and managing relationships with key government stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Advise on effective advocacy strategies and representation of the company's interests at the highest levels of government
Conduct stakeholder mapping and influence analysis to identify key decision-makers, policymakers, and influencers at the federal level of government.
Managing engagements and strategic relationships with regulatory authorities
Coordinating and attending meetings with relevant regulatory bodies, such as the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), among others.
Assisting the company in drafting comprehensive responses, submissions, and supporting documentation required for obtaining or renewing various statutory permits and licenses essential for business operations.
Leverage existing networks and relationships to facilitate access to key government officials, policymakers, and influencers for the company’s representatives.
Arrange and facilitate meetings, events, and forums for the company to engage with decision-makers and influencers.
Manage strategic relationships and engagements with high-level regulatory authorities at the federal level.
Offer advisory services on best practices for engaging and managing government stakeholders, considering the peculiarities of the Nigerian operating landscape. This may include guidance on cultural nuances, protocol, and effective communication strategies tailored to the Nigerian context.
Skills
Understanding of the political landscape and awareness of current political issues, policies, and legislation that could impact the organization
Ability to draft policy papers, reports, and position statements
Strong networking abilities to build and maintain relationships with government officials, policymakers, and other stakeholders
Capability to develop and implement effective government relations strategies
Experience in advocating for policy changes and securing support from various stakeholders
Confidence and competence in presenting the organization’s viewpoints in public forums, meetings, and hearings
Attention to detail in tracking legislative developments and managing government relations activities
Flexibility to adjust strategies in response to changing political and regulatory environments
Ability to stay updated on policy developments and anticipate their impact on the organization
