About the Role
Crown Agents is contracted by Emory University as fiscal agents to help establish a sound financial and program management system for the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) project in Nigeria.
The Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) network works to close these gaps by gathering the evidence needed to save young lives.
As a 20-year programme supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, through Emory University Global Health Institute in Atlanta, Georgia, CHAMPS seeks to identify definitive causes of and prevent child deaths through community engagement, diagnostic and laboratory innovations, surveillance network advances, policy-to-action activities, and rapid, open access to data.
Crown Agents works with government implementing partners in Bauchi and Cross Rivers States to provide reliable accurate and timely information regarding management of the funds and safeguarding against abuse or loss. Crown Agents have successfully implemented the Year 1 CHAMPS project in collaboration with University of Calabar and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi and is poised to move into year 2.
To support the increased scope of year 2 CHAMPS activity, Crown Agents seeks to engage the services of a Deputy Team Leader to be based in the Abuja office.
The duties of the Deputy Team Leader include:
Support the Project Director and Team Lead to provide overall leadership to the team comprising of the Crown Agent’s state-level teams and Implementing Partner Teams to ensure overall delivery and achievement of all agreed project milestones/deliverables.
Lead coordination of IPs activities related to finance management to ensure they align with CHAMPS project SOPs and ensure timely execution of work plan within approved budget with improved efficiency, visibility and value for money.
Coordinate and serve as a liaison between the IPs and the Crown Agents on technical bits of the interventions in the absence of the Team Lead.
Responsible for coordination with Finance Managers, Grant/Risk Managers and Implementing Partners to ensure timely and accurate monthly financial and narrative reports to CA and onward delivery to the Emory PO team.
Provide support to the Team Leader with work plan management and development of deliverables.
Monitor the fiduciary risks to CHAMPS Nigeria Implementing Partners funding operations, develop controls and procedures in place to ensure that funds are used as intended.
Attend and support the effective organisation and coordination of routine meetings with the implementing partners, Emory team, and Crown Agents CHAMPS team at the central and sub-national levels, while ensuring timely execution of action points.
Lead the quarterly Budget Performance Management meeting with IPs
About You
Main requirements:
At least 8 years of experience in Child health management in private sector/ international organizations
Minimum of a First Degree in Management, Medicine, Economics, Pharmacy, Public Health, or Finance from a recognized institution plus a professional qualification. A master's degree will be an advantage
Experience working and collaborating with diverse stakeholders, NGOs, government officials, donor representatives, local and international staff
Accountability and ownership of tasks and results
Critical Thinking and Analytical skills are strongly desired
Strong report-writing skills
Excellent communication skills
Confirmed experience working on large-scale project health programs in challenging contexts, ideally in Nigeria
Experience in capacity building of implementing partners
Proven track record in financial accounts and management reporting
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and work independently
