The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities, we restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. The IRC leads the way from harm to home.
USAID-funded Opportunities to Learn (OTL) project aims to address the immediate education need of out-of-school children (OOSC) and youth in 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs), in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, through safer new and existing non-formal-education, while laying the groundwork for sustainable improvement of education systems at the community and government levels.
OTL aims to ensure out-of-school children and youth in Northeastern Nigeria are safely able to gain foundational skills, including literacy, numeracy, and social and emotional skills, to progress to higher levels of education, training, and/or engagement in the workforce.

Background / Rationale
The IRC/OTL Innovation Programs, EduTank, under the OTL project will work closely with the Innovation ecosystem in Nigeria to ensure seamless integration of innovative methods and systems towards improving learning and teaching experiences in our non-formal learning centers.
In this light, EduTank in partnership with the innovation ecosystem within and outside of the IRC, will crowdsource Edtech solutions, incubate and groom these solutions in line with the humanitarian context, and provide funding to implement the ABEP content in these solutions to reach areas that OTL intervene in. These solutions will digitalize and refine the ABEP content to improve the classroom experience, meet learners at the right levels, and improve the teaching capability of educators, making learning fun.
These EdTech solutions will complement the Teacher’s Development Team, and align with global and local approved teaching approaches and methodologies.
