Job Title: Aviation Underwriter

Duities / Job Details
The duties of the Aviation Underwriter will comprise amongst others:
Development of the Aviation reinsurance business to support the Corporation’s strategic objectives.
Soliciting and receiving new and renewal offers from cedants and brokers for the African Aviation Pool, assessing such offers and providing quotes or determining whether or not to accept them in line with existing underwriting policies/guidelines.
Providing support in risk assessment and underwriting decisions on Aviation business originating from Africa Re Production Centres.
Perform regularly detailed risk portfolio analysis in accordance with Africa Re’s underwriting guidelines.
Maintaining proper records of all business offers and transactions received and concluded in accordance with the Corporation’s internal rules and underwriting guidelines.
Ensuring that all accepted contracts are processed, and the contract documents are signed and sent out in a timely manner to cedants or brokers.
Monitoring the profitability of markets serviced and monitoring progress towards the achievement of income targets in the assigned markets.
Support prompt and effective collection of all balances due and outstanding from cedants and brokers while also ensuring timely remittance of amounts due to them.
Provide training and technical assistance to cedants/clients and internal staff in relation to Aviation (Re)Insurance.
Prepare periodic business intelligence reports on the Aviation portfolio.
Attend to any other duties as may be assigned by the Corporation or Management from time to time.

Academic Qualifications
Minimum qualifications and Experience:
Applicants shall be holders of:
First University degree in a relevant field plus Masters’ degree and 7 years post qualification relevant and qualitative work experience with emphasis on Aviation Insurance/reinsurance underwriting and claims management.
Or First University degree in a relevant field plus full insurance professional qualification, plus 7 years post qualification relevant and qualitative work experience with emphasis on Aviation Insurance/reinsurance underwriting and claims management.
Or First University degree in a relevant field plus 10 years post qualification relevant qualitative work experience with emphasis on Aviation Insurance/reinsurance underwriting and claims management.
