Job Title: Security & Access Officer

Line Managed by: Country Director or Designated Manager
Technical Line Management: Regional Security Manager
Location: Maiduguri, with frequent travel to MAG operating areas

Job Purpose
To work with programme senior management to ensure good security planning and management in the programme.
To develop and facilitate appropriate relationships and good communications between MAG and other stakeholders we engage with.
Job Description
Tracking of security incidents and inputting to MAG internally used mapping/tracking system
Safeguarding:
Work in compliance with MAG's Safeguarding Framework - Policy on Personal Conduct, Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults Policy, Dignity at Work Policy, Reporting Malpractice (Whistleblowing) Policy, Equal Opportunities Policy and Policy on Modern Slavery.
Report any Safeguarding concerns following MAG’s reporting options and guidelines.
General:
Respond where required to internal security incidents and implement respective response needs
Act as part of the in-country SMT and a key member of the Incident Management Team (IMT)
Undertake any other reasonable task that may be requested through line management or SMiC
Duties & Responsibilities

Person Specification
Providing thorough analysis, and recommendations to the SMT on security protocols in MAG’s areas of operations
Liaising with relevant stakeholders in the country to collect context-specific security information to inform security planning
Establish a network of contacts with local authorities in order to maintain an overview of the security profile
Supporting safe transit of MAG staff and visitors in the field through monitoring security situations and reporting concerns as well as updating field teams when they are deployed
Reporting any safety issues to CD and Base Manager and facilitate implementation where required
Security focal point for the program
Updating RSM and SMT on security incidents to ensure staff safety
Supporting Community Liaison and clearance teams with local risk assessments and access support
Supporting the SMT with site, area and road assessments
Managing the implementation of security mitigation upgrades as requested and directed by the SMT
Supporting other MAG departments as and when required to maintain operational delivery
Undertake any other security-related duties appropriate to the post as may be required
Support the Country Director in maintaining a safe working environment for all staff within the program
In coordination with SMT, participate in external meetings with local stakeholders and authorities, participate in security meetings of NGOs, UN organizations, and other stakeholders
Contribute to the update and facilitation of security training
Essential Experience:
Experience of a minimum of 3 years with NGOs or international organizations in a position related to security, context and/or representation
Higher Education in International Relations / Security, or related fields, or equivalent background acquired through extensive professional experience.
Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize and share complex details in a simple manner.
Excellent negotiation and representation skills; able to network across a variety of stakeholders.
Demonstrated communication and organizational skills.
Flexibility and ability to multi-task under pressure.
Willingness to work and live in often remote areas under basic conditions.
Proven ability to work creatively and independently both in the field and in the office.
Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English, and local dialects.
Excellent computer skills with high proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs
Essential Aptitude:
Self-motivation, and the capacity to work with limited supervision
Ability to work remotely with limited management oversight and support
Experience and acceptance of working in remote locations (with limited/no electricity, internet, etc)
Able to work under pressure, deliver high-quality work within deadlines and meet team objectives

Desirable Skills and Knowledge:
Prior INGO experience, ideally in security management or senior advisory role.
Experience and knowledge of the context and ability to analyse the changing security environment
First aid trained
HEAT training experience and qualifications
