Job Title: Dangerous Goods Coordinator

Key Role
The Dangerous Goods Coordinator is the technical expert responsible for making the technical decisions required in the process of Acceptance Checks and management of the handling of Dangerous Goods in a professional and compliant manner, ensuring that DG shipments are presented for transportation in a safe, secure and compliant manner.
Key Responsibiities
The Job holder is also the resource person charged with the supervision of the process of handling non-compliant shipments as well as shipment incidents such as leakages/spills, repackaging, incident reporting and management and to ensure that DHL Dangerous Goods Policies, Procedures and Work Instructions are implemented to full compliance level.
The job holder must possess a valid DG Acceptance Checkers Course Certificate (formerly DG CAT 6 Certificate) and capable of taking on the additional role of a certified IATA DG Trainer. Liaise closely with the Duty Manager/Supervisor, providing internal & external customers with any necessary information.
Communicate closely with the Duty Managers/Supervisors, providing timely feedback on queries or technical support that may be required.
Liaise closely with the Country Operations Mangers or designate on any compliance issues regarding their shipments transiting the Lagos Hub with a view to ensuring that the issues are resolved timeously. Working in conjunction with the Operations Duty Managers and Supervisors, ensure that no prohibited or restricted commodities are presented for transport without prior arrangements and authorization.
Ensure that the designated Operations personnel check for and received the appropriate supporting paperwork required for processing DG shipments and that the required information is accurately provided.
Ensure that Restricted Commodities (RC) arriving in the Lagos Hub are handled in accordance with National and International legislation as well as DHL Global SOP and Restricted Commodities Group (RCG) guidance.
Ensure the timely distribution of RCG updates such as Newsletters, Newsflash and email updates to keep all stakeholders updated on regulatory changes or any developments that may impact or assist in the handling of the product.
Regularly monitor and audit the DG On-Hold shipments process to ensure that an up-to-date register is kept for all RC shipments On-Hold and that they are stored in compliance with relevant RCG and Global SOP standards and the appropriate checkpoints captured for pipeline visibility.
Ensure the accurate and timely completion of IATA Dangerous Goods Checks by the authorised and designated Operations personnel and provide the required expertise as and when required.
Manage and follow-up with relevant stakeholders to ensure that accident/incident reports are closed within the stipulated timeframe.
Ensure that the DG checkers CAT 6 certificates for Lags Hub personnel are always valid.
