The Surveillance Data Specialistwill support the implementation of surveillance activities under the Fleming Project Fund.
They will assist the MERL team in review of MERL surveillance workplans, surveillance plans and protocols, supporting sites to implement MERL surveillance activities (as may be necessary), monitoring implementation of surveillance workplan activities, update / review / develop materials / tools for surveillances, conduct training on surveillance, monitoring surveillance activities, review of data from other relevant sources, facilitating learning, data use, develop / adapt reporting templates for surveillance activities, collating surveillance indicators for reporting and compiling reports.
This includes identifying and monitoring progress toward surveillance targets, assessing surveillance performance, collecting, and analyzing surveillance data, documenting lessons learned, and ensuring the production of surveillance reports that are timely, accurate, and comprehensive. Providing support to institutional and human capacity building for surveillance activities. Make input in plans to ensure sustainability of surveillance activities.
This list is not exhaustive, Surveillance Data Specialist will be expected to carry out other duties as assigned to achieve the outcomes desired by our client and needed by the people the project aims to serve.

Specific requirements for this role would be:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Statistics / Epidemiology or a related field.
Experience:
Bachelor's with 4 - 6 years of experience, or Master's with 2 - 4 years of experience, or Doctorate with 0 - 2 years of experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
Good analytical, presentation and reporting skills
Good experience on surveillance activities
Knowledge and experience in training and capacity building
Excellent inter-personal, multi-cultural and team building skills
Strong computer skills particularly in spreadsheets, data visualization (maps, graphs, charts, etc) database (i.e. MS Power BI, Tableau, SAS, SPSS, Stata, R) and other statistical applications
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to foresee problems and initiate appropriate action
Excellent oral and written communication skills and fluency in English
Excellent organizational skills
Previous work with stakeholders (NCDC, FMOH MLSD, FMOH DFDS, NAFDAC, FMoEnv, Fed Min of Agric & Rural Devpt, NIMR, PCN, etc) is an added advantage
Competencies:
Supervision: Works independently and reports to the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer
Decision Making: Working within project strategy and policy guidelines, makes decisions with regards to work responsibilities and is accountable for them
Responsibility over data or information: Has access to information within project and is responsible for program data generation and management.
Responsibility over assets: Overall responsibility assigned assets in the program.
