Job Title: Database Engineer

Job Description
The suitable candidate will have the opportunity to work as a L1 / L2 database administrator across different database technologies including but not limited to Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, MongoDB.
The candidate will have the opportunity to work across multiple private / public cloud platforms hosting NI’s database infrastructure.
Candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining the database patch process end to end across all databases running on different cloud platforms.
In addition to that, Candidate shall be attending to L1 / L2 database issues which includes user management, capacity management, non-production issues, developer requests, database cloning, proactive alerts management etc.
Job Responsibilities
Maintain an inventory of all databases along with current patches applied across all platforms used by NI.
Create and maintain patch plans for all databases spanning multiple database products across Private / Public cloud infrastructure. (On-premise, AWS, OCI, Azure).
Manage end to end patch process from rolling out patches to non-production till the patches are tested and rolled out to production databases.
Manage end to end coordination with different stakeholders including application owners and Change control board members with regards to patch management.
Create and maintain end to end documentation of database patching procedures individually for each database product running on each On-prem / cloud platform.
Analyze and understand vulnerability assessment reports shared by Information security and create customized patch plans depending on the VAPT reports.
Work with Information security team, Internal audit and Infrastructure patch management team to maintain the overall patch score at above 90%.
Assess patching needs and suggest improvement / bring automation to the patch processes wherever possible.
Attend to L1 / L2 requests / issues pertaining to database area. This includes attending to proactive alerts, adding space to the database, managing database users, attending to developer queries / requests, cloning database from one server to another, performing ad hoc backups etc.,
Support patching downtime during out of office hours / weekends to accommodate business needs.
Be on-call on a rotational basis to support any operational issues arise out of database area.
Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer Science.
2+ years of experience as an Oracle and SQL Server database administrator.
Experienced in Installation and patching of Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL databases.
Experienced in managing databases across Linux and Solaris platforms.
Excellent knowledge of Oracle Grid Infrastructure in RAC / Single instance setup.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server Always-on / Windows clustering technology.
In-depth understanding of database concepts and core database architecture of any one database products mentioned above.
Excellent understanding of different patch types and release schedules maintained by major database vendors.
Knowledge of any one public cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / OCI).
Basic experience in Shell / Python scripting.
Skills:
Oracle 19c on Solaris and Linux platforms, MS SQL Server 2019, Basic skills on AWS or OCI, Oracle Enterprise manager user experience, Knowledge on RAC / ASM / Dataguard.
Excellent analytical and problem management skills.
Dedicated approach to service management
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Should be team player.
Ability to successfully anticipate issues or challenges without being specifically directed.
Strong ability to meet target deadlines and manage time effectively.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
OEM Cloud control administration, Other RDBMS such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL. NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB. Bamboo, GIT, Jira. Understanding of agile methodologies and Devops Ecosystem.
Certification:
Oracle (OCP) or Microsoft certified database administrator.
