We are a self-help organisation. Our primary goal is to improve access to credit for entrepreneurship and investment, as well as providing financial assistance for emergency expenses. We aim to help members save, invest, and grow their wealth with an emphasis on saving.
The Accountant at God's Treasury Cooperative Thrift & Credit Society plays a pivotal role in managing the financial operations of the organization while upholding its core principles of mutual support, self-help, and community development.
Reporting directly to the management, the Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management: Manage the day-to-day financial transactions of the cooperative, including recording income and expenses, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial reports.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop annual budgets in collaboration with the management team, monitor budget performance, and provide regular financial forecasts to support decision-making.
Cash Flow Management: Maintain optimal cash flow levels to meet operational needs while maximizing investment opportunities and minimizing financial risks.
Financial Reporting: Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, for review by management and external stakeholders.
Compliance and Regulatory Reporting: Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and reporting requirements, including tax filings, audit preparations, and regulatory submissions.
Internal Controls: Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and ensure the integrity of financial operations.
Member Services: Provide support and guidance to cooperative members on financial matters, including savings, loans, and investment opportunities.
Audit Coordination: Coordinate internal and external audits, facilitate audit processes, and implement recommendations to enhance financial controls and operational efficiency.
Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development of long-term financial strategies and goals in alignment with the cooperative's mission and objectives.
Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for process improvement, streamline financial workflows, and implement best practices to optimize financial performance and member satisfaction.
Qualifications and Skills
OND in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Professional Certification (e.g., ACCA, CPA) is preferred.
Proven experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in a cooperative or similar organization.
Strong knowledge of financial principles, regulations, and reporting standards.
Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
