The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) was established through an Act of the Parliament in 1960 to complement public authorities in humanitarian interventions with the mandate to prevent and alleviate human suffering at times of peace or conflict, and to support individuals and communities to respond effectively to emergencies, without any form of discrimination as to class, gender, race, political opinions or religion.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Branch Health and Care Officer
Location: Yobe
Job Purpose
Under the guidance of the Branch Secretary and the technical support of the NHQ Director/Coordinator Health & Care, the Branch Health & Care Officer will be responsible for implementation of Health Activities at the Branch and Divisions.
The position ensures all health projects and programmes at the branch, whether funded by partners or by the branch, are implemented, monitored and regularly reported on. These include Mother’s Club, Nutrition, HIV/AIDS, vaccination, hygiene promotion and First Aid are implemented in line with the NRCS strategic plans.
Job Duties and Reponsibilities
The Branch Health & Care Officer has the following responsibilities:
Develop the Branch Health plans and budgets in line with the community needs identified
Develop Branch capacity on the management and implementation of emergency response plans, in liaison with the Branch DM Officer to prepare for and respond to disasters and epidemics in the Branch and Divisions
Establish strong collaboration and cooperation with Movement partners, Governmental Departments involved in health programmes in the state and divisions.
Participate regularly in forums and health technical working groups in the State.
Establish, strengthen and equip Mothers Club units in the Branch and divisions in collaboration with relevant partners with focus on Maternal, New born and Child Health (MNCH) and HIV/AIDS.
Provide advice on Health-related matters including development and implementation of an early warning systems to NRCS NHQ.
Ensure capacity building of volunteers engaged in health programs
In collaboration with First Aid trainer, establish a robust First Aid unit that delivers effective services to the community.
Duties Applicable to all Staff:
Actively work towards the achievement of the NRCS goals
Abide by and work in accordance with the Red Cross Fundamental Principles and NRCS Statutes
Show capacity to assist other members of staff and management, aptitude for maintaining cooperation and team spirit necessary to achieve the objectives of the National Society
Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by Line Manager
Qualifications and Experience
University Degree in Public Health or other relevant qualifications
Minimum of 3years’ experience in Health interventions and Management
Experience in the field of medicine is more preferable
Skills and Competencies:
Essential:
Good leadership and accountability skills
Strong judgment and ability to identify and analyse problems and to think strategically to anticipate, interpret and develop strategic responses to issues
Ability to persuade, influence, negotiate, manage and sustain effective, successful strategic relationships both internally and externally
Proficiency in the use of MS Office tools
Fluency in written and spoken English
Desirable:
Good knowledge of the work of the Red Cross in Nigeria and the State
Experience in Programme design and management
Experience in Volunteer Management
Excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills
Knowledge of project management, emergency and public health management, humanitarian relief issues, trends and goals aimed at preventing and alleviating human suffering.
Strong leadership, team building, conflict resolution and ability to deliver the society’s articulated vision for change.
Ability to initiate and manage change and align programmes to the strategic plan.
Demonstrated ability to influence and resolve differences and conflicts.
Strong organisation and Program management including planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
Strong capacity in developing health emergency response plans and resource mobilization.

Ability to protect the reputation of NRCS through the quality of work, knowledge and experience
