Job Description
These strategic locations have allowed NRC greater reach from the north and south parts of the North-East and North Central region and allowed NRC to contribute to bridging the gap between humanitarian aid and development cooperation, including by focusing on equitable access to basic services and strengthening the rights of displaced people and returnees. In addition to the Country Office and the above-mentioned Area Offices, NRC has sub-office structures in Dikwa, Monguno, Biu, Mubi, Pulka and Gwoza.
We are looking for people who are passionate about helping refugees and people forced to flee.
If you are those people, the Norwegian Refugee Council in Nigeria is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Driver to join our team in Yola, Adamawa State.
You will be responsible for the overall driving day-to-day logistics functions for the NRC Area South office.
Role and Responsibilities
Generic responsibilities
Transport NRC staff, visitors, documents and goods/materials to designated destinations when officially approved
Ensure the safety and security of the passengers, the goods and the vehicle
Immediately report accidents, breakdowns and needs of repair and general maintenance/service
Respect the local traffic regulations and the NRC logistical/vehicle policies at all times
Maintain the logbook for all trips
Maintain the vehicle in proper operating condition at all times, including keeping the vehicle clean, ensuring enough fuel, checking the technical state etc.
In liaison with the line manager, arrange for repairs and servicing
Ensure the assigned vehicle has all the necessary documents and equipment
Provide logistical support during trainings and workshops
Specific Responsibilities:
Transport NRC staff, visitors, documents and goods/materials to designated destinations when officially approved
Ensure the safety and security of the passengers, the goods and the vehicle
Ensure the vehicle is always clean and in proper condition.
Drive NRC vehicles to pick or drop employees at their designated duty areas within and sometimes outside Borno State
Deliver Important documents to required destinations as directed.
Ensure that all deliveries have been signed and delivered to the correct recipient
Keep NRC vehicles clean and maintained at all times
Perform preventive and regular maintenance on NRC vehicle
Convey NRC staff on assignments in and out of the office to their desired destinations
Pick up and drop off NRC staff and partners from the airport to their destinations
Cleaning and maintenance of all NRC vehicles
Chart the best route possible in order to save time
Update the office on the status of the vehicle particulars for timely registrations and renewals.
Competencies
Generic professional competencies for this position:
Experience from working as service support staff in a humanitarian/recovery context
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
SSCE of WASSCE or NECO Educational Qualification is required
Valid Driver’s License/Driving school certificate
Knowledge of local language (Hausa)
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Context-related skills, knowledge, and experience
Good basic arithmetic skills.
Defensive driving skills.
Experience in handling high-profiled vehicles such as Lexus suv’s and double cab pick-up.
Ability to make good and quick decisions on the wheel.
