The University of Maiduguri was created in 1975 as one of the second-generation Universities, which formed part of the programmes of the Third National Development plan (1975-80) by the then Federal Military Government. At inception, the university did not have physical structures of its own, but in April 1976 it inherited the premises owned by the former North East College of Arts and Science (NECAS).

Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates for appointment into the position of Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Professorial Chair in Basinal Studies tenable in the Department of Geology, University of Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria.
Duities
The candidate shall teach relevant courses in Basinal Studies at undergraduate and graduate levels as well as carry out other academic duties as may be assigned by the University.
The candidate shall engage in research in the following areas:
Petroleum Systems Analysis of Nigeria's Inland Sedimentary Basins (Dahomey, Anambra, Benue & Bornu Basins)
Evaluation of contributions of Cretaceous source rocks to Nigerian sector of the Chad Basin
Reservoir characterization of Bornu Sub-basin and Rock Property Models
The candidate shall have adequate research experience in the areas stated above
Deliver an annual Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Lecture on topical issues in Petroleum Geology
Establish and strengthen academic leadership in the fields of Geosciences and
Provide Professorial and community services as well as carry out other academic and administrative responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of Department of Geology.
Qualification and Experience
Candidate must be a Petroleum Geologist or a person appointable to the position of a Professor who can make contributions in areas relevant to Petroleum Technology Development.
Possess a PhD in the relevant field of Geosciences.
Should have a minimum of 10 (ten) years of teaching and research in any recognized university within or outside Nigeria.
A candidate with the required number of publications, extensive research and academic experience etc. for appointment to the position of a Professor can also apply.

Conditions of Service and Salary
The appointment is for a Professorial position in the University of Maiduguri endowed by Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).
A competitive salary shall be offered which is equivalent to that of a Professorial rank in Nigerian universities and a top up, plus attractive enhancement incentives.
Other conditions governing the appointment of staff in the University of Maiduguri, shall also apply.
The appointment shall be for a three (3) year period in the first instance and is renewable for another two (2) years based on performance.
