Job Purpose
The job holder will play a vital role within the Company’s Operations Leadership Team with a focus on the strategic and technical development of the Company.
The role will be responsible for developing and establishing a Drilling + Completions function to ensure that all risks are managed to an appropriate level and that all aspects of drilling and completions expertise are available when required.
The role will ensure the highest levels of competence across the company’s drilling staff to include the recruitment, retention, competency, development and professional mentoring.
As a key function leader in the Operations leadership team, the job holder will work closely with other functional leads as well as other group managers (HSES, CFO, and Corporate Services). Managing the balance between the corporate and operational priorities will therefore be essential as well and excellent influencing skills which will compliment the operational excellence.
Principal Accountabilities
To play a leading and collaborative role in the Operational Leadership Team, reporting to and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, representing Drilling and Completions in the Operations Leadership Team.
Builds, manages and mentors a Drilling + Completions Team to ensure appropriate competent resources are available when required.
Drilling + Completions risks are effectively managed.
Risk and well control management.
Design of the well.
Ensures that Drilling activities comply with the highest ethical standards, company standards and Government regulations.
Prepare for approval all budgets and AFE’s for Drilling related activities.
Ensure that all Drilling projects are adequately documented and lessons learned are captured for and fed into future operations.
Direct responsibility of for all HSEQ aspects of Drilling + Completions activities.
Responsible for the procurement of Drilling related equipment and services including logistics.
Key Success Factors:
Success of drilling campaigns ensuring excellent planning and PEER reviews.
Well completed as designed
Identification of risks and opportunities including the implementation of risk mitigagation measures.
The right people / competencies are embedded in the team to ensure the assets can extract maximum value
No surprises during drilling + completions operations
Budget and schedules are maintained.
No environmental damage during Drilling
No delays due to permitery or consents
The company’s production and reserves targets are met
HSE Responsibilities:
To ensure that any risk assessments are effective to maintain the safety of the drilling operations
To be an active member of the Operations leadership team in all HSE related issues
aMaintain visibility and commitment to HSE across the entire business
Coach and support all Drilling + Completions staff to maintain HSE awareness and performance.
Graduate in Engineering to at least degree level. Essential
Qualified in Drilling Essential
Substantial experience working in both large and small oil and gas companies Essential
Knowledge of onshore Drilling and intervention activities Niger Delta Essential
Demonstrable track record of delivering quality major drilling programmes safely, within budget and on or ahead of schedule. Essential

Job Context/Environment:
The position is based in Lagos and will require frequent visits to the field base location(s) Niger Delta and contractor offices.
Key reports will be located both in the head office Lagos and field locations.
