Job Title: Tailor

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time

Who are we looking for?

• We are looking for two tailors to be responsible and accountable for the research and development of new clothing lines for our brand, Afrique Wears.
• The successful candidates must be knowledgeable about current fashion trends.
• They will be responsible for assuring products are of high quality and value for our target customers.
• Thus, the candidates must understand the principles of design and pattern and apply this knowledge to creating aesthetics that are comfortable to wear.

Responsibilities

• Measuring the client and discussing the choice of style and fabric
• Working out the cost of the garment
• Making a paper pattern using a stencil or computing software and laying it out
• Marking the fabric round the pattern and cutting out the pieces
• Tacking the pieces together, fitting the garment to the client and making any adjustments needed
• Sewing the garment by machine
• Hand-finishing the garment (adding trimmings and fastenings)
• Pressing the garment
• Researching current fashion trends and determining what consumers will like
• Collaborating with the design team to develop ideas for new products based on research data
• Testing and deciding on fabrics, colors, patterns and textures for each design
• Maintaining relationships with vendors, suppliers and models
• Communicating technical design information for customer samples

Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree in Design or Fine Arts is preferred but not required
• Proven work experience as a fashion designer or in a similar role, preferably in manufacturing apparel companies
• Superior knowledge of fashion design principles
• Ability to create, cut and sew patterns
• Proficiency in computer-aided fashion design applications and digital visualization tools
• Excellent attention to detail.
