Job Title: Features Editor - MCN

Location: Lagos

Summary

• We are searching for an experienced features editor to join our creative team.
• Your ‌goal will be to develop and maintain a diverse, exceptional, informative, inspiring, and appealing features category to attract our targeted audience and build customer loyalty.
• You will perform a range of tasks, including conceptualisation and execution of campaigns, setting publication goals, generating story ideas, assigning articles, designing content, and ensuring the features we run are on topic, well-written, and informative.
• As the editor, you will show a good eye for detail and the know-how to manage all the moving parts of a publication.
• To excel in this position, the successful candidate will also possess excellent communication, editing, and proofreading skills.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Editor-in-Chief and Digital Editor to define the features strategy across all our digital platforms.
• Manage and develop the feature category section of the publication.
• Design the contents of publications based on the company's style, editorial policy, and publishing specifications.
• Conceive, develop, and assign story ideas that attract our target audience.
• Commission and supervise features and stories from in-house writers, freelancers, and other media employees.
• Establish and maintain the publication standards and goals.
• Research and authenticate facts, dates, and statistics.
• Proofread and edit stories.
• Ensure all feature articles comply with ethical codes of practice and legal guidelines.
• Coordinate with designers, photographers, writers, and artists.
• Establish industry contacts to enhance the quality of the features category.
• Meet tight deadlines and monitor budgets.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, or related field.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
• Established industry contacts to enhance the quality of the features category.
• Possess a keen sense of storytelling, as well as strong analytical skills.
• Possess proven connections and access to people in all women-centric fields, beauty, fashion, politics, etc.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• In-depth knowledge of SEO and social media best practices.
• Ample knowledge of Content Management Systems (CMS)
• A creative thinker with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proven experience with MS Office and design software.
