Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (RC 638640), is one of the eleven successor distribution companies of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). Kaduna Electric, a registered trademark of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, is licensed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to distribute and retail electricity within a service coverage area of Northwestern-most of Nigeria. It has its Headquarters in Kaduna, with offices in Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States.

Kaduna Electric is looking to employ young, vibrant professionals to fill the position below in the Engineering and Technical Services Department:

Job Title: Power Cable Technician

Job Status: Full-time
Locations: Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States

Job Summary

• Cable technicians are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairs of power cables of all sizes and type. Terminate cables to transformers, switchgears and power equipment and including inspection of power cable lines, laying underground cable, fault tracing and repairs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Carry out jointing and repairs on high voltage and low voltage cables and properly arrange cables in their trenches and ducts.
• Locate, repair and manage leaks or faults on power cables.
• Adhere to safety rules and procedures in carrying out duties.
• Prepare low and medium voltage power cable for termination and connection on the power distribution system.
• Ensure correct phasing of cables is maintained before energization of feeders.
• Use electrical test instruments to locate and clear power cable faults.
• Pull power cables through underground pipes/conduits and or buried power cable.
• Update location diagrams for the layout of cable systems

Experience and Minimum Requirements

• Secondary School Certificate, Ordinary Diploma/Equivalent
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Minimum of 0-2 year cognate experience

Competency and Skill Requirements

• Ability to Identify types/sizes of cables and to handle delicate cable types.
• Ability to correctly use and maintain the tools of the trade including power tools, test equipment and measuring instruments.
