Description
We seeking two motivated Assistant Professor/Associate/Full Professor of English Language and Literature in the Department of English Language and Literature (ELL) who will be responsible for teaching, research and community service as may be requested by the Dean.
The candidate contributes to preparing students to be applied, critical thinkers and problem solvers through innovative teaching and research.
S/he will work closely with the Chair and Dean of the school in formulating and implementing course structures that would translate to effective teaching and learning of courses in line with the development philosophy of the American University of Nigeria.
Asides the teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the department’s administration and scholarly work by carrying out and disseminating high quality research.
Job Purpose
Develop, prepare and deliver teaching in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry or Petroleum Chemistry courses, and modules, to undergraduate and graduate students.
Conduct research and publish papers in rigorous peer-reviewed journals.
Promote the department’s research and scholarly activities by presenting research findings in seminars and conferences.
Supervise research projects.
Tutor and mentor students.
Lead or be part of other committees aimed at promoting research, curriculum development, staff welfare etc.
Contribute to AUN’s community service and development.
Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Person Specification
PhD in English and Literature (with concentration in Language or Linguistics).
Experience in American Style of higher education
Experience of teaching Semantics, Pragmatics, Syntax, phonology, English Language in Nigeria, writing and other related courses, with at least five (5) years’ experience at University level education.
An outstanding teaching and research record commensurate with career stage.
Experience in problem centered approach to teaching and learning.
Record of publication in peer-reviewed journals commensurate with career stage.
The post-holder will be required to instruct courses, both introductory and advanced levels, in line with his or her area of expertise.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in English Language and Literature at the time of applying.
The area of specialization should be Language or Linguistics, with at least five (5) years of university-level teaching experience.
The candidate should be able to teach courses such as Semantics, Pragmatics, Syntax, phonology, English Language in Nigeria, writing among other courses. The candidate should also be able to do other departmental and university-wide duties as assigned to them.
S/he will possess established, or potential to establish, record of excellence in teaching, research and service and knowledge of relevant virtual learning environment (VLE) technologies are required.
Candidates should possess a strong record of academic publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, commensurate with career stage. International experience is preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required. The right candidate must have a strong command of English language.
