Job Description
Under the supervision of the EcoSec Delegate in Jos and in line with the country’s strategy, the Nutritionist Field Officer plans, implements and monitors the ICRC’s nutrition programmes in the Areas of Responsibility of Jos Sub-Delegation (covering 7 states).
S/He is the focal person for all the nutrition activities performed in Jos Sub-Delegation.
S/He also has an active and recurrent communication with the EcoSec team in the Sub-delegation and with the nutrition team in Abuja and participates in the regular internal reporting.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Participates in the planning and follow up of project activities in the areas of intervention according to the timing and type of monitoring established
Participates in EcoSec or other departments assessments or perform independent assessments to determine the needs and proposes interventions.
Collects and shares information to improve the ICRC’s understanding of the environment and humanitarian trends and responses.
Organizes and supervises the execution of training sessions, nutritional awareness activities and / or cooking demonstrations, according to the pre-established schedule, in collaboration with the nutritionists, the National Society, the Ministry of Health, community leaders and any other pertinent interlocutors.
Plans and organizes field trips to follow up on activities in the field according to the frequency required by the program
Creates and ensure the implementation of the data collection tools needed for the monitoring of the projects, in collaboration with the EcoSec Analysis & Evidence unit.
Serves as a focal point for the stakeholders involved in the programs including volunteers from the National Society, PHCC personnel, Nutritionists from the Ministry of Health, community stakeholders and others, and assures their participation in the projects
In close collaboration with other departments, prepares and follows up on all administrative and logistical documents required as per ICRC's procedures for the projects’ implementation (Supply Requests, donation certificates, weekly movement plan, among others).
Assures an adequate follow up of the budget dedicated to the projects that are being implemented.
Reports timely and adequately to his/her line manager.
Participates to the process of reporting for assessment, training, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly activities and ensures adequate follow-up of recommendations.
Reports on time the information needed for the internal reporting process (EPMT – MfR, QER).
Assures the integration of the nutrition sensitive approach among other departments and sectors by as specified by the Nutrition and EcoSec strategies.
Education and Experience Required
Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Human Nutritional Science or its equivalent or degree in other related health sciences with relevant work experience
At least 3 years of experience working in nutrition in international humanitarian organizations, entities, or NGOs.
A minimum knowledge about infant and young child feeding, nutrition during the life cycle and food security and livelihoods programs is highly desired.
Familiar with Nigerian public health sector systems is highly desirable.
Fluent in Kanuri, Fulani and Hausa is highly desired.
Desired Profile and Skills:
Good organizational and planning skills.
Good reporting and analytical skills and well-developed computer skills
Conversant with Nigerian National CMAM, IYCF and GMP technical protocols.
Good field work skills and ready to spend between 50-75% of the time in the field.
Sensitive to cultural, gender, religious and other social issues with colleagues and stakeholders.
