Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, formerly Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike, was established as a specialized University by the Federal Government of Nigeria via Act No 48 of 2nd November 1992. It began formal activities in May 1993 with the appointment of the first Governing Council and Vice- Chancellor.
The Institution is located in the well-known Agricultural Training and Research town of Umudike, about 9 kilometres from Umuahia town, the capital of Abia State. The major link road to the University is the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Federal Road, a direct route to the State Capitals of Abia, Akwa-lbom and Cross River States. Being close to Umuahia, the University is linked through a major North-South Express Road to most parts of the country.

Job Description
The University Librarian shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the administration of the University Library and the coordination of all Library services in the University, its Campuses, Colleges, Schools and Institutions and other teaching or research units.
Requirements
The candidate must have a PhD qualification in Library Science with a minimum of fifteen (15) years cognate experience, and at a level not below the rank of a Deputy Librarian or its equivalent with at least five (5) years experience in a University / Institution of higher learning.
The candidate must have evidence of scholarly publications related to Library/Information Science in reputable journals and books and must be a member of the Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) as well as Nigerian Library Association (NLA).
The candidate must have a track record of considerable degree of competence, responsiveness, demonstrate integrity and transparency in all ramifications of the job performance.
He/she must be in good health and able to endure the rigours of the duties of the University Librarian.
In addition, the candidate must show demonstrable skills, knowledge, and ability to run an ICT driven library with high level efficiency.
Candidates for this post must not be more Sixty-two (62) years old at the time of assumption of duty.
