International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and Nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in under-served communities worldwide.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Principal Investigator

Location: Nigeria
Department: Technical Unit

Job Summary

  • The Principal Investigator will lead and oversee project activities and coordination across a network of partner hospitals, as well as communication and coordination with CDC’s “global network of networks." This project intends to enhance detection and response to infectious disease threats globally by developing networks to implement prevention and containment strategies at local, national, and regional levels. Interventions to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease threats in healthcare, including antimicrobial resistance (AMR), healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), and COVID-19, will be developed and implemented within networks.

Main Task and Responsibilities

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Provide technical, operational, and management leadership to all program activities.
  • Lead the project’s senior management team in ensuring implementation and management plans are consistently technically sound and aligned to aims of the multi-year programmatic objectives.
  • Lead and coordinate the provision of necessary technical assistance to effectively support periodic review of strategies, work plans and activities, ensuring strategic use of lessons learned and best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership and assistance to project partners and technical team members as needed and guided by project’s interventions; work in close collaboration with the CDC Country Programs Director to ensure teams have the technical support they require.
  • Ensure the project’s technical strategy, approach, and contextualized interventions at various levels of the project (network-level, hospital-level, etc.) are harmonized across all program components, congruent to the global best practices, and aligned with the latest evidence.
  • Lead the coordination and collaboration of all technical referents across all project partners; ensure capacity strengthening interventions are supported by the necessary technical subject matter experts.
  • Lead collaboration and coordination across project teams to ensure results-oriented directions, targets, deliverables, internal control standards, and measurement plans are technically sound, adhered to, and aligned with project requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership for learning, knowledge management, and use of data for programmatic decision making.
  • Coordinate International Medical Corps’ relationship with partners and donors related to monitoring and evaluation, providing support in facilitating technical collaboration and coordination activities with Governments, local country CDC, local academic institutions, MOH Hospitals and related directorates, U.S. CDC, and other NGO partners.
  • Represent the project and its partners on technical and management issues concerning the implementation of the project with donor, key stakeholders (international, regional, and national level), technical working groups, and internally within International Medical Corps’ broader technical and international programs units, and relevant Country Programs.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Director, Country Programs CDC and Business Official to ensure the project progresses according to contract and fulfills all contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate with mission Senior Management Team (SMT) to report out project deliverables and improve quality of implementation.
  • Represent the program to external and internal parties including agency SMT members (Field and HQ) as well as Donors.

Qualifications

  • Typically, a Medical or Nursing Degree, with Master’s degree in Public Health, Infectious diseases, Health/Hospital Management. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Experience:

  • Typically, 12+ years of relevant and progressive experience in multi-year health projects implemented in international development and/or humanitarian settings, including at least 7 years in a senior-level positions providing strategic technical assistance and managerial oversight for high-value, complex, multi-year health projects implemented in international development and/or humanitarian settings; specific experience with health systems strengthening in fragile settings preferred
  • Demonstrated experience designing and managing projects with focus in the areas of infectious diseases management and prevention, health systems strengthening, capacity development at national and local levels, and Infection Prevention and Control detection and response in hospital settings.
  • Extensive experience establishing, monitoring, and training on national and sub-national disease surveillance systems.
  • Previous and recent experience supporting COVID-19 preparedness and response efforts strongly preferred.
  • Recognized achievements in cultivating and maintaining internal and external relationships to achieve project goals.
  • Demonstrated experience managing diverse teams of technical subject matter experts, employing both in-person, and remote management approaches to supervision of staff in various locations.
  • Experience leading and/or supporting capacity strengthening initiatives with local stakeholders in related technical areas, including contributing to curriculum development and effective training methodologies for the health sector.
  • Proven strong leadership skills and experience in leading and/or facilitating a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong familiarity with U.S. CDC rules and regulations, including monitoring related compliance and mitigating risks.
  • Demonstrated diplomatic, management and interpersonal communication skills to liaise, negotiate and advocate with Governments, donors, and key stakeholders including other implementing agencies.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required
