Job Title: MEL / EMR Internship

Locations: Kebbi, Kwara, Niger, Sokoto or Zamfara

Descriptions

  • Chemonics International, a leading international organization based in Washington, D.C., seeks five Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Interns for the USAID funded Strategic HIV / AIDS Response Program (SHARP) Task Order One (TO 01) in Northwestern Nigeria. SHARP TO 01 will implement accelerated scale-up of interventions and cost-effective innovations to improve access to and quality of HIV / AIDS and TB service delivery, while strengthening the national health system in the Northwestern states of Kebbi, Kwara, Niger, Sokoto and Zamfara.
  • The program will support HIV testing services, HIV diagnosis and treatment, HIV care and support, laboratory services, and health systems strengthening. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. Please note these positions will be based in Kebbi, Kwara, Niger, Sokoto or Zamfara states based upon the needs of the project. Placement will be discussed during the interview process.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure entry / daily update of new and existing patient information, including but not limited to that of enrolment, initiation, visit / drug pick-up, clinical encounters, drug administration, adherence, and side-effects, on the electronic medical records provided for use.
  • Daily update of existing patient information, including but not limited to that of visit / drug pick-up, clinical encounters, drug administration, adherence, and side-effects, on the electronic medical records (EMR) provided for use.
  • Review daily entries for completeness and correctness of data. Verify entered data by reviewing, correcting, making changes to data in electronic medical records.
  • Conduct daily back-up of electronic medical records information on external hard drives provided & Create and maintain a daily log of patient unique ID for information entered on the EMR platform.
  • Liaise with the medical record unit staff to retrieve and properly re-file patients’ file / folder during and after visits and work in collaboration with the medical records unit staff to ensure proper archiving of obsolete registers, as applicable.
  • Ensure all source documents such as ART Registers, daily appointment registers, and patient attendance logs are always properly updated, as applicable. Support the review of monthly programmatic reports before submission to next level of reporting, including LACA focal persons and IP.
  • Generate automated weekly reports from the EMR database for clinical decision making.
  • Report any hardware / software malfunction within 3hours of notice to supervising SHARP TO1 State Lead.
  • Ensure safety of EMR hardware / software at designated fireproof safe / cabinets at the medical records unit.
  • Work with SHARP TO 01 State Lead to generate XML reports weekly for submission to the National Data Repository (NDR).
  • Conduct electronic data standards checks (eDSC) monthly and maintain logs on-site.
  • Participate in the conduct of internal DSC and maintain logs on-site, as applicable.
  • Fosters and demonstrates a workplace inclusive of creating opportunity, serving others, building trust, innovation, and exceeding expectation.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning or state-based and central program leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Health Informatics, Statistics or other relevant field.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, software development and hardware repairs.
  • Must be able to provide proof of completion of a one-year youth service through National Youth Service Corps.
  • Previous experience in LAMIS development and deployment preferred.
  • Familiarity with PEPFAR / USAID key performance indicators is a plus.
  • Knowledge of health and development programs in Nigeria.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and independently managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
  • Fluency in English required.

Working Hours & Remuneraton

  • Please note interns may work a maximum of 40 hours per week. Each intern will be provided a monthly stipend to cover meals and transportation through the duration of the assignment. Interns will not be offered any additional benefits or allowances.
