Background / IRC Summary
The IRC has been working in Nigeria since 2012, IRC entered Nigeria in October 2012 in response to a widespread flood disaster. IRC’s emergency response team, with local partner CISCOPE (Civil Society Coalition for Poverty Eradication), implemented a project to support livelihoods and improve WASH in Kogi State from February to May 2013 to January 2014. This was followed by a 3month nutrition and food security program in the same location from October 2013 to January 2014.
IRC has been supporting programming in Adamawa State since early 2014. The current project addresses malnutrition and associated health concerns among conflict-affected persons in North-Center Adamawa State. In addition, IRC is beginning a new education focused grant looking at non-traditional educational access for conflict-affected youth
Responsibilities
Keeps equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles, completing preventive maintenance such as, engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing, replacing filters.
Maintains vehicle functional condition by listening to drivers complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine failures; repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions; replacing parts and components; repairing body damage.
Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
Complies with state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
Maintains vehicle records by recording service and repairs.
Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
Respond to all breakdowns and accident related issues with the IRC vehicles
Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related
Will take the lead in establishing KPI for the vehicles and ensure subsequent follow up
Will be part of rental vehicles assessment before engaging the vehicles to work for IRC
Establish and maintain monitoring and control systems for all spare parts, lubricants and tyres for proper utilization.
Provide basic maintenance training for drivers
Any other task assigned by the supervisor.
Expected Deliverables
Strict adherence to the IRC’s vehicle policies and procedures, especially those pertaining to vehicle security.

Indirect Reporting: Supply Chain Manager

Internal: Supply Chain Coordinator, DDFM, SAM’s Field Coordinators
External: Vehicle Spare part vendors, Vehicle mechanics
Minimum Requirements
High School Certificate, Diploma or relevant qualification equivalent.
Appropriate certification in mechanics or verifiably experience. Valid driving license.
Written and spoken English.
Pass score on IRC driving test.
Flexibility and willingness to work long hours if necessary
Frequent travel to all IRC field sites at least twice a month?
In charge of all IRC Vehicle maintenance and report on expenses and status
Report to field leads when in the field for operations
Ensure sound and quality maintenance with durable spare parts
Have Valid driving Licenses with an expiring date of at least 1 year
Define the level and/or scope of experience and education by using specific measurements and details, e.g., years of experience, specific educational focus, degree, etc.
Key Competencies:
In-depth, general understanding of vehicle and equipment mechanics / electrics.
Attention to detail.
Ability to organize and prioritize work.
Working Environment
As for all IRC personnel, the Mechanic is requested to be flexible and helpful. The mechanic may be asked to perform related duties or extra hours whenever it is needed
