Infact,i now realise that;there is nothing one can do to satisfy HUMAN BEING. How can you define 'massive reqruitment?' You are even asked to produce ONLY 6 copies of CV and not 35 or even> as a job seekers. try and give the house other word/phrase that can be used to replace 'massive' Were u asked to pay money like Immegration req that is not even sure 4 u with sevetral constraint. I am a job seeker too.

Guys, Madonna University is on the right track. HND holders has no business as teaching staff in a university. Same applicable with BSc holders. Even when BSc holders are employed as graduate assistants in some universities most precisely, Federal universities, they are not meant to teach until they acquire MSc with laudable grade (PhD grade which is minimum of 60 percent or 4.0 on 5.0 scale). Also, if your BSc grade was 2.2, i will advise you not to embark on MSc with the prospect of securing a lectureship position after that because you might be highly disappointed. Emphasis today, is placed on minimum of 2.1 at BSc with PhD grade at MSc. Wish you guys the best as you opt to join us in academics

That is a very good development in the right direction. My suggestion to universities is to include the practical application in every course. This ll help create jobs thereby reducing unemployment.

@Prof:why are you emphasizing on grade, the school didnt say you must have 2.1,that why our education is fast crumbling.I have seen people with third class doing better than 1st class student.Remember standards in various school difer. If you got third class dont be discourage by what prof wrote. From obtaining your PGD,Masters,PhD in that order who say you cannot be a Prof.I was shocked the day I discovered from Uberfacts,American Information Center, about many people who couldnt boast of college degree but they are great inventors of great reput. Finally, thank you Madonna for this great opportunity.

@ Emma, i share in the fact that you are optimistic in seeing a bottle of water half-filled rather than half-empty. As much as i respect guys with 3rd Class, they can contribute optimally in other sectors of our economy. But, in education sector, they have little or nothing to offer. Can a man who is a risk-averse teaches one to become an entrepreneur? The answer is no. Moreover, look at NUC regulations for teaching staff employment. Federal University, Oye-Ekiti have started enforcing that proposed employees for teaching staff must possess a minimum of 2.1 at BSc inspite of their grades at MSc. At PhD entry level, 3rd or 2nd class at BSc does not count. Why do you think that madonna is emphasizing that applicants should possess grade that can fetch them PhD admission? If one can't show scholarship at BSc and MSc levels, obviously, academia is not the place for the fellow.
For the guy presently undergoing mandatory National assignment, private universities are forward looking models that like making profit. Thus, they hardly waste their resources employing BSc (Graduate Assistant) who will not teach. I implore you to pick MSc form. That of University of Port Harcourt is on sales at the moment.

It is expedient to note that Standards in Schools differ. For me, a B.Sc graduate with M.Sc grade of 3.0/5 in most Universities can compete effectively with a first class candidate in some other schools. For Instance, i narrowedly escaped 2.1 because of physicological issues; working to support my studies and others. I was among the best three graduates with a good 2.2 of 3.4/5 in a very challenging Medical school of UNICAL. However, i was able 2 beat a good number of 2.1 graduates from various Universities in the free and fair Postgraduate screening test and Oral interview of University of Calabar to be admitted among the best 8candidates to start my Masters degree which i am almost done with coursework. I can proudly challenge or even do much better than some 2.I and first class graduates of my field both on written exams n in the Classroom. MOREOVER, ONE CAN MAKE A Summa cum laude BUT THAT DOESNT MAKE ONE A GOOD LECTURER. If Madonna Needs the best lecturers, good 2.2 graduates with 3.0/5 can equaly fit the bill and this could be tested through a practical interview in the classroom. I will apply looking forward to having such opportunity to prove myself

@prof. you are not far from the truth. it is what is obtainable now in most university employment.infact they screen from your O `level which must be one sitting and during shortlisting they separate the 2.1 from 2.2 graduate.other commentators like Akpan,Emma and ME want to know if there is any comparism between the best graduate of University of Lagos and best graduate of madonna university.a 2.2 at university of Ibadan can make a 2.1 in madonna University. Why should we discriminate 2.2?. have i spoken the mind of Akpan,Emma and ME?

Although some employers consider graduation grade as a prerequisite for employment but for me, this is wrong! The school, department, faculty and other factors like; is the student struggling 2 sponsor himself or herself in school et al, determine your grade in addition to your intellect. My best undergraduate lecturers were not first class graduate and a very few 2.I graduates. That aside, as an individual who has strong passion for Education n Teaching, I CAN CATEGORICALY SAY THAT TEACHING HAS MORE TO DO WITH TALENT AND SKILLS- you can be intelligent but that doesnt make you a good teacher. I leave all 2 ponder on this

Guys, ranging from Akan to Me whom i see to be uncivilised by his choice of words, i really appreciates your lucid contributions to the blog. As for me, i don't want to sound personal because you hardly know the person you referred to as " a bad teacher". By the grace of God, i have never found a set of students that will not missed my class; not because of my laudable grades but because teaching, research and community service are what the master sent me to do on planet earth.
Akan, let us not subject value judgement into public discuss. The moment we continue to attribute our near success symdrome to reasons that i can't figure out, then we are not on the path to correct the mistake of yesterday. As much as i don't want to sound boastful, i can't conclude that making over 4 points with a very insignificant figure that denied me from been rated as first class was because i sponsored myself through school. There is a marketing parlance that says "good product markets itself". Several years after my BSc, my course mates and friends still refer to me as "first class product" and some adress me as "prof".
Again, having obtained BSc and MSc from two respectable institutions in Nigeria, i can proudly inform you if you will want to know that first class graduates from first generation universities (Ui, UNN, ABU, OAU and Unilag) are well deserving. I will want you to show me a graduate from this university that parades such honourable grade and will not live to expectations. I can as well agree with you that 4 pointers above from these universities and the likes of some second generation universities like Uniben and Unilorin are first class products if they had find themselves in some universities like Unical which sorting is the order of the day in most departments. I am not oblivion of what is tenable there. It is a region that i am well disposed to.
I do not dispute the fact that some first class do not deserve such appelation, most especially the one issued by private universities in Nigeria. During my MSc at Ui, i have witness several first class failed not just one course but something you can imagine. Shame on most private universities that issued such grade in the first instance and even more shame on the holders of such grade. I was very keen in an attempt to see if i could find a Second class upper from my alma mater, UNN, failing a course. I wasn't surprise when i could not find one. Same applicable to 4 pointers from the reverend first generation universities.
Finally, consistency defines the true attribute of an individual. The fact that you surpassed a 2.1 in aptitude test does not prove that you are relatively better. You may not know the person's psychological or emotional state as at the time of the exam. Secondly, are these 2.1 from first first generation universities? Thirdly, what do you expect when you were been examined by the same academics that you understand how to approach their questions? Avail yourself to different examiners before you can conclude how good you are. I am one of the few Nigerians that will not want to bag two certificates from one university because i don't want to be examined by different examiners at every rung of my acdemics.
Thanks guys.

For my earlier post, in the last sentence, delete "don't" so the context could flow. @ bollywilly, you are objective. As much as the school one attends has much to do with the shaping of an individual, the greater work is done by the personality in question. I feel so honoured to parade a 2.1 from UNN (that a dime was not given to any lecturer ) even with the fact that it is 4. Somethin than parading first class from some universities that are shadow of themselves. Same will my learned friend with 4.4 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,9) from ABU will say.
Bollywilly, Nigeria is witnessing academic revolution. It may interest you to know that there is a department in Ui in which applicants that were admitted for MSc in a particular session were only first class of about 50.
