Job Title: Higher Library Officer

Job Purpose
The role will be responsible for providing efficient and effective frontline services by undertaking customer service duties at the Librarian circulation desk and customer service centre, general administrative support and assisting with Library programs.
He/she will also assist in the management of stock (e.g. shelving library books, ordering consumables, etc.) as required.
Main duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service:
Provide a high-level customer service to members and visitors to the library and Customer Service Centre.
Library Operations:
Maintain library records and circulation of library material.
Specialised Library Services:
Maintain and assist customers where necessary with specialised library services such as Local History, Site Kiosk, Online databases.
Financial:
Undertake financial transactions, cash handling, receipting and banking processes in accordance with established procedures.
Inter library Loans:
Manage requests, loans and returns from external organisations as required.
Established Practices:
Maintain books in order on shelves in accordance with established practices. Assist Senior Library Officer with operational duties of the library as necessary.
The post holder may be required to undertake such other duties commensurate with the nature and level of the post as directed by the Head of Department.
Person Specification
Qualifications:
Candidate must possess a good degree/HND in Library and Information Science or ND plus a minimum of four (4) years cognate experience.
Continued Professional development
NYSC discharge certificate/certificate of exemption is mandatory
Experience/Knowledge:
Candidate must hold at least three (3) years of relevant experience.
Experience in Library environment will be an added advantage.
Candidate must be Information and Communication Technology (ICT) compliant.
Knowledge of office management systems and procedures.
Capacity to develop and manage e-Library is required.
Working knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Software, Specifically proficient in the use of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Desirable:
Experience in Library environment will be an added advantage.
Capacity to develop and manage e-Library is required.
Skills:
Be of proven managerial skill, able to utilise available human and material resources efficiently and effectively, to achieve set University goals and objectives.
Meticulous degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to deal calmly and professionally with the unexpected.
Must be assertive, friendly, cooperative, flexible, tactful, dependable and logical – work in a collaborative manner with multiple offices.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
