Position Description
As a Geologist working on the Unconventional Program (primarily - Tar sands) you will be able to provide input into regional evaluation, basin analysis and prospect identification in frontier basins, prospect generation and appraisal for unconventional resources (tar sands, shale gas and liquids and tight gas) and have the ability to transform an unconventional resource into an economic asset.
You will therefore have experience in completing geological interpretations in a variety of structural and stratigraphic regimes incorporating a variety of geophysical and geological data.
You will be able to provide detailed depositional models within a regional sequence stratigraphic framework.
You will have the experience to enable you to actively participate in the coring/well planning process to optimize locations using a variety of geological and geophysical data.
You will have the ability to provide input into the generation of both appraisal plans and field development plans for resource assessment and development optimization.
The ability to work on a multidisciplinary team is a key asset.
Job Responsibilities
Provide input into regional evaluation, basin analysis and prospect identification for frontier basins, prospect generation and appraisal for unconventional resources (tar sands, shale gas/liquids and tight gas)
Perform geological interpretation in a variety of structural and stratigraphic regimes incorporating a variety of geophysical and geological data

Desired Qualification/Preferred Competencies
M.Sc. / Bachelor's Degree in Geology or a related science as appropriate to the required discipline.
An advanced degree is preferred.
We are targeting 10 years' experience with at least 5-10 years in unconventional/conventional plays including tar sands, shale or tight gas and liquid hydrocarbon and with some field mapping experience in economic mineral/bitumen exploration and hydrocarbon basins required.
Candidates with more or less experience depending on the quality of their experience will also be considered.
The candidate will have experience in exploration geoscience, with exposure to several of the following areas: regional mapping, regional geological evaluation of unconventional plays, structural characterization of natural fractures and impact on unconventional reservoirs, sequence stratigraphic analysis, geochemistry, petroleum systems and basin modelling, reservoir characterization in unconventional hydrocarbons plays, log analysis and interpretation in unconventional reservoirs and/or experience locating and providing geological support to drilling operations in unconventional plays.
Experience with any existing heavy oil province (Athabasca, Bakersfield, Venezuela, etc.) and experience with extraction methodologies will be an advantage.
