We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position below:
FHI 360 has expanded its scope of coverage into humanitarian assistance with an aim to provide emergency services to populations affected by conflict in Borno state and specifically in newly liberated areas. FHI 360 received funding from OFDA to implement life- saving health and reproductive health, Water and Sanitation (WASH) and Protection services in Dikwa, Ngala and Banki Local Government Authorities (LGAs) of Borno state, North East Nigeria. FHI 360 plans to expand its geographical coverage to Damasak and also establish program activities in the Child Protection Sub Sector.
Under the protection sector, FHI 360 aims at improving the wellbeing of vulnerable individuals through increased access to psychosocial support services and integrated Gender-Based Violence (GBV) support and Child Protection. Key activities under the Child Protection sub sector includes:
Improving access to timely and quality Case Management services for children at risk
Strengthening and Supporting Community Based Child Protection Mechanisms
Setting up Child Friendly Spaces to meet psychosocial, development and cognitive needs of Children affected by conflict
Protecting excluded children
Integrating Child Protection in WASH and Health
Basic Function
The Technical Officer, Child Protection (TO-CP) will supervise the implementation of all activities linked to the Child Protection objectives under the IHANN Project.
S/he will coordinate the implementation of Child Protection activities in Dikwa, Ngala and Banki through formative supervision at the field sites and provide on the job training for the field based staff.
S/he will also support the Protection Coordinator in the coordination activities at Field level as well at State level through participation in the Child Protection Subsector Working Group Coordination meetings.
The incumbent commits to observe discretion on any information related to the organization functioning and to conduct his / her duties in respect to FHI 360 Child Protection guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities
In accordance with the child protection proposal and work plans, coordinate and support field staff to implement child protection activities including case management, psychosocial support and learning activities in child friendly spaces, building community based child protection mechanisms, protection of excluded children and mainstreaming of child protection activities in health and WASH sectors.
Develop and regularly update detailed implementation plans for the Child Protection Subsector.
In coordination with the Protection Coordinator and home office technical advisor, adapt Child Protection training modules, IEC materials and other project materials required for the implementation of quality Child Protection activities
Under the leadership of the Protection Coordinator, coordinate with the department of social affairs at the LGA level and at State level for support to children associated with armed groups and children in need of alternative care placement.
In collaboration with Protection Coordinator, develop supervision plans for the project staff based at the field level.
Conduct regular field visits to the four field sites to carry out technical supportive supervision for staff at the field sites.
Submit field supervision reports with clear action plans to improve effectiveness of program implementation to Protection Coordinator.
Under the leadership of the Protection Coordinator and the HQ technical support, adapt and implement quality audit checklist each semester for purposes of improving service quality.
In coordination with the M & E team, conduct quarterly data quality audits every quarter.
Compile sub sector bi-weekly reports and consolidated monthly reports and submit to the Protection Coordinator for review.
Support the M& E technical Officer to verify and validate Child Protection data each quarter.
In the absence of the Protection Coordinator, represent FHI 360 in the Child Protection Sub Sector Working Group meetings.
Support the compilation of the Child Protection 5Ws.
In collaboration with the Protection Coordinator, develop procurement plans for new projects / areas of project implementation
Develop sector purchase requests as per the approved procurement plans and submit to logistics for processing.
Develop project material distribution plans and follow-up with logistics to ensure timely delivery of materials to the field sites.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
Experience in capacity building
Mandatory fluent in English and local languages – Hausa, Kanuri
Excellent report writing skills
Good communication and negotiation skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Understanding and commitment to child’s rights and child protection issues
Ability to work in hardship areas and willingness to frequently travel to field sites
Excellent computer skills

Knowledge on CPIMS+ an added advantage
Ability to manage tight deadlines and deliver high volumes of work with minimal supervisions.
Qualifications and Requirements
BSc/BA in Sociology, Psychology, Social Sciences, Behavioral Sciences or its recognized equivalent with 5-7 years of relevant experience with NGO or CBO.
Or MS/MA degree in Social Sciences, Behavioral Sciences or its recognized equivalent with 3-5 years relevant experience.
3-4 years relevant experience Child Protection programming including Case Management.
Familiarity with Nigerian law enforcement systems and NGOs and CBOs is highly desirable.
Mandatory experience in Child protection projects.
1-2 years experiences in INGO at an officer level.
Travel Requirements:
10% - 25%.
