Objectives of the Consultancy
WHO is operational in North Eastern Nigeria through their Incident Management Support Program to provide life-saving assistance and health services to the population affected by the prolonged and complex emergency affecting around 17. Million people across the Lake Chad Basin and an estimated 5.9 Million in North Eastern Nigeria.
The objective of this country study is to get a complete overview of the determinants of health and to understand this complex situation to support a long-term strategy for North Eastern Nigeria.
The consultancy is aimed at analyzing all relevant assessment reports, survey reports, research documents and grey literature as well as get a deeper insight of the demographic changes and its possible impact on health service delivery system, the security aspects and its influence on peoples livelihood and wellbeing, cultural aspects influencing health issues, the agricultural context to estimate food accessibility, availability, quality and utility over the coming months, the coverage of sanitation and water accessibility and its possible impact on health. Furthermore, the influence of climate change as the LCB is affected by prolonged sever draughts and a shrinking of Lake Chad, a major income and food source. All these multiple stressors do have an impact on people’s (public) health and wellbeing.
The analysis should provide a sound and robust understanding on the magnitude of the complex situation and identify the major health determinants and health outcome measures and strategy.
Description of Duties
Develop a protocol to conduct the meta-analysis
Search most relevant and scientific robust documents (published, grey literature, partner assessments and survey reports among others) related to the situation in North-Eastern Nigeria.
Meet major stakeholders in Abuja and Maiduguri for a comprehensive situation analysis
Provide a comprehensive analysis by factor in all determinants in health
Provide a strategy framework for WHO Country Office
Required Qualifications
Education:
Essential: a first university degree in Public Health or Social Science
Desirable: an advanced university degree (master's or doctorate) in Public Health with 10 years of international field experience.
Experience:
Essential: at least 10 years of relevant experience at international level.
Experience in multi-sector analysis/ research, particular in vulnerable, conflict and complex settings.
Experience in generating a high quality synthesis report of scientific robustness and relevance.
Experience in providing technical assistance to countries.
Desirable: international experience working within the UN system, WHO or INGO’s.
Skills:
Ability to identify relevant documents, publications for review in relevant search engines
Experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
Proactive engagement with partners for interviews
Ability to review, analyze and interpret data and information (including geospatial data)
Ability to clearly present findings in oral and written communications
