We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Working Group Coordinator (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS))

Location:
Maiduguri, Borno
Classification: Professional Staff, Grade P2
Type of Appointment: Special short-term graded, Six months with possibility of extension
Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible

Context
  • A Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) coordination group was recently formed in Maiduguri, Nigeria. The purpose of the MHPSS coordination group is to bring together in one forum all the stakeholders working in the area of MHPSS with the view to enhancing the response to MHPSS needs of affected persons displaced by the ongoing crisis in North East Nigeria, and thus improving their access to quality services and support. 
  • It aims to achieve this goal through enhanced coordination among MHPSS agencies, conducting a detailed mapping of MHPSS activities, sharing best practice, building capacities of MHPSS actors and partners in other priority sector working group, supporting the development of MHPSS policies and strengthening advocacy initiatives with the Government of Nigeria, the humanitarian community, civil society and donors.
  • The MHPSS Coordination group reports to the Health Sector Working Group.  The MHPSS working group is chaired by the Ministry of Health and will be co-chaired by a full-time coordinator housed within the International Organization for Migration.
  • Under the overall supervision of the Senior Programme Coordinator (Emergency Response) and the direct supervision of the Project Manager (Psychosocial), the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for the coordination of the MHPSS working group activities, liaising with relevant clusters and MHPSS actors.
Core Functions/Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the activities of the MHPSS working group and any sub-groups/ taskforces.
  • Represent the MHPSS working group at the Health Sector Working Group and ensure appropriate reporting to the Health Sector Working Group.
  • Conduct capacity-building and awareness-raising initiatives (orientation seminars, mini-trainings, briefings, project reviews) for MHPSS working group members and relevant sector working group partners.
  • In collaboration with relevant actors, maintain an updated matrix of MHPSS actors and ongoing activities.
  • Facilitate implementation of the IASC Guidelines on MHPSS in Emergency Settings for quality provision of MHPSS in Borno State, in the context of the emergency response in North East Nigeria. In particular, the implementation will focus on the following:
    • Capacity-building of relevant stakeholders, to comply with the IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in Emergency Settings;
    • Mainstreaming MHPSS into other clusters/sectors;
    • Supporting development and dissemination of key information and advocacy messages on MHPSS to the relevant clusters/sectors and the affected population, as needed.
  • In collaboration with other clusters/sectors, encourage the development, implementation and monitoring of a referral pathway to ensure prompt and appropriate MHPSS services.
  • In collaboration with relevant actors, develop a Monitoring and Evaluation system of MHPSS activities.
  • Support the collection and dissemination of data for purposes of joint, planning monitoring and evaluation and advocacy.
  • Foster collaboration amongst agencies and diverse stakeholders (such as governments and communities).
  • Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education:
  • Master's Degree in Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Pedagogy or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or
  • University Degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.
Experience:
  • At least 2 years of experience of working in humanitarian contexts;
  • Experience in coordinating MHPSS responses in humanitarian contexts;
  • Experience in working in large scale complex humanitarian emergencies;
  • Knowledge of and the ability to promote the IASC MHPSS in Emergency Settings guidelines and associated products (e.g., IASC Assessment toolkit, the 4Ws mapping tool and the Health, Protection and CCCM booklets);
  • Knowledge of the IASC Common Framework for Monitoring and Evaluation of MHPSS programmes in Emergency Settings;
  • Familiarity with the humanitarian architecture (cluster system), humanitarian appeals, humanitarian response plans and common humanitarian funds;
  • Information management skills an asset.

  • Fluency in English is required.

  • Internationally recruited professional staff are required to be mobile.
