Background
Seeing is Believing (SiB) is managed by a consortium comprising of Christoffel Blinden Mission (CBM) International and Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI).
The project seeks to improve access to comprehensive eye health services for children. The project will address the avoidable, preventable and treatable causes of blindness and visual impairment among children aged 0-14 in selected states of Nigeria.
Equal access to both male and female, as well as people with other disability will also be ensured on the project.
The components of the project include; Promotion, Prevention, Medical and Rehabilitation/Education.
SiB is being implemented in 11 States, across 4 geopolitical zones in the country, with each zone referred to as a cluster– Cluster 1 (South-West- Oyo, Osun, Ogun); Cluster 2 (North-Central- FCT, Nasarawa, Plateau); Cluster 3 (North-West- Kano, Katsina and Jigawa); and Cluster 4 (South-South- Cross Rivers and Akwa-Ibom).
Proposed SiB KAP Study
Seeing is Believing (SiB) is now inviting reputable research organizations and or suitably qualified research fellows who wish to participate in the proposed SiB KAP study to apply.
Organizations should endeavor to enclose their profile and capability statement detailing their past experience in undertaking similar studies while individuals should enclose their CV and suitability statement describing their qualifications and experience in the field of qualitative and quantitative research study.
The survey will be conducted over a period of eight (8) weeks. From July 5 to August 30, 2017.
Aims and Objectives
The primary aim of this KAP study is to examine the knowledge, attitude and practice of various stakeholders including policy makers, traditional and religious leaders, community members and health care providers towards Child Eye health (CEH).
Methodology
This survey will be conducted using a combination of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
Scope of Work In order to achieve the study objectives as stated above, the successful candidate, together with the study team will accomplish tasks as outlined below:
Develop research protocol
Conduct desk review
Develop data collection tools, field test and finalize tools
Train local enumerators, FGD moderators and note takers
Carry out field work for data collection
Conduct analysis
Write report
Job Description
For the purpose of this survey, a consultant with proven expertise in qualitative and quantitative studies will be contracted on a short-term engagement to act as the Principal Investigator who will lead the study.
The SiB Programme Director (PD) will provide oversight and technical guidance to the study, drawing support from the representative of the Country Office to ensure that the entire process is of the highest quality.
Specific Tasks
The consultant shall, in consultation with SiB/CBM team members, oversee the implementation of the study in the four clusters and the FCT, including the following tasks:
Development, pre-test, review and finalization of study tools
Oversee the data collection in the states.
Guide note taking and recording of discussion and interview
Guide the transcription of FGDs notes
Conduct analysis of findings of both the quantitative and qualitative data using data analysis software (SPSS and ATLAS ti 8.0) in conjunction with the data analyst.
Prepare and submit a draft report of the study, revise and finalize the quantitative and qualitative report and submit an acceptable report to the SiB/CBM Programme.
Qualification
An advanced Degree in Demography, Social or Behavioral Sciences, Statistics or related field is required, a Ph.D in the area listed will be an added advantage.
Demonstrated expertise in rigorous quantitative and qualitative research design, implementation and analytical methods.
At least ten years’ experience in conduct and management of mixed studies
Willingness to work under time pressure
Experience in conducting independent qualitative and quantitative, studies, assessments, and data analysis are highly desirable.
Excellent ability in qualitative data analysis and interpretation
Demonstrated report writing skills for qualitative and quantitative studies
Understanding of the context and setting of interventions in Nigeria.
Hausa/Yoruba and /or Efik languages are desirable.
