Why is Jobberman.com Copying Hotnigerianjobs.com Job Adverts Free, and Asking JobSeekers to Pay Money?

Posted on Thu 04th Apr, 2013 - hotnigerianjobs.com --- (139 comments)

It is not a hidden thing that 95% of Nigerian Job Adverts you see on other jobsites and forums are copied from Hotnigerianjobs.com. We post the jobs while others copy. But we are not bothered, we are bothered only when some websites like Jobberman.com copy our job adverts free, remove the application details and ask JobSeekers to pay money to apply.  Jobberman.com has over 4 times our staff strength with millions of investor's funds at their disposal. Hotnigerianjobs.com has only 13 staff with enough funds keeping her afloat.

We are crying out loud because Jobberman.com is cheating us. They are copying all our job adverts with impunity. They have the staff strength and financial capacity to source for job adverts the way we are sourcing for our own adverts, instead they are depending on us to supply them the job adverts without any gainful return.

We release our job adverts in the morning, by evening all our job adverts are in the Jobberman.com database. We decided to be hiding a phrase "Copied from: www.hotnigerianjobs.com" in some of our job adverts. When Jobberman.com copy's our job adverts, they always remove the phrase but in some rare cases they are blind in removing it, and we hold it as evidence.

See the evidence below:

We have over 200 of these links with Copied from: www.hotnigerianjobs.com but we are just releasing a dozen links.

Note: When you open the link, look carefully for Copied: www.hotnigerianjobs.com

Update: Expectedly, Jobberman.com has removed the evidence in their pages, but we captured the screen images of the pages before we published this post. See them below:

Some will ask, why is Hotnigerianjobs.com not hiding her job application details. It is our policy to publish and make every job application detail free.  So that JobSeekers will have the power to apply and know who and where they are applying to, instead of hiding the details and applying on their behalf.  What if the application did not go through, just like the recent Aero Contractors Airline Recruitment which the email was not going, how will a Job Seeker know that his/her application at the Job Board was not through or entered spam folder, and whole lot of other cases.  Sometimes, we publish job adverts from reputable companies with free email services like Yahoo, Gmail, etc as the application email, some applicants will call the job adverts Scam Advert, but if we hide the details, how will they know the email they are applying to.

We at Hotnigerianjobs.com want to make it clear that we are not against Jobberman.com subscription services, because it is their strategy to sustain their businesss, but we are against copying our Job adverts free, removing the application details and collecting subscription on the adverts, it is anti-competition and we also feel sabotaged.  Infact, Jobberman.com did what a good number of Jobsites lacked courage to do. All over the world, employers pay to advertise jobs and even pay head-hunters for providing skilled workers to them, but in Nigeria Jobberman.com has turned it the other way round and it is working for them, so they most be wizards to pull that out.

Definitely, I know Jobberman.com will remove our evidence from their database once they read this post. So, if you confirm it, just indicate in the comment below.

Editor's Note: I want to make one thing clear, we did not publish this post to blackmail or malign Jobberman.com. Jobberman.com is copying our job adverts in such a way that suggested they are out to sabotage and undermine our efforts, how can you on a daily basis copy all our job adverts from A to Z while you locked-up your own job adverts, nobody copy's you.  To us it is anti-competition. To show we are not out to blackmail Joberman.com, this post has not seen our Front Page and we have not sent it to any online news blogs or main stream media houses, we only sent it to our mailing list. We only want Jobberman to play the game fairly (Jobberman has the capacity to do their business in a fair manner). They know what they are doing is wrong, and we expected them to do the needful by apologising to us and promise not to copy us again (Damage Control) so that we take-down this post and let the sleeping dog lie.  They should take  a cue from other bigger companies around the world that had been in a similar situation and how they handled such issues. If we don't hear from them, by next week, we are going to escalate this issue to the main steam media and make it a national issue. I know it will be diasasterous to their image and reputation, and we don't want to do it.  Even though Jobberman.com has deleted our evidence from their database, we have Google Cache images and text of the pages, and a lot of other evidence.

Many commenters want us to sue Jobberman.com but for now we don't have such intention because we consider it as a distraction to our business.

Jobberman.com hide their application details, making it difficult for other jobsites to copy them, so they should not copy others.  Even copying their Job Summaries is an issue as you can see from these posts:

Jobberman To Third Party Sites: "Stop Pulling Our Jobs Or We’ll Block You!"

About 54% Do Not Support Jobberman Blocking Njorku [SURVEY]

Well, I rest my case.

Honestly, God bears me witness, all of the invitations for job tests and interviews i got are from hotnigerianjobs.com. I have NEVER had a chance from jobberman, even before they went commercial; that is why i never bothered to subscribe to their "legal scam". Jobberman is just a bunch of greedy individuals who are taking advantage of vulnerable job seekers in this country. This is rather unfortunate, and regretful. Hotnigerianjobs.com should keep up their good work. And Nigerians should cease from patronizing jobberman who is only try to reap from where it did not sow. Come to think of it, if every job seeker in Nigeria subscribes to jobberman, what will now be the advantage of the subscription? it will simply come back to the point where we started!
why should pple pay for an uncertainty? Jobberman does not even have influence over who get what. They just horde application info and expect a jobless man to pay for it. it's not fair. To me, it's a scam

I personally feel that is a deliberate attempt at slandering Jobberman. From what I have observed, all jobs websites in Nigeria copy from each other.
I have gotten 3 interviews and a job through Jobberman and as such I would not join in abusing them. However, i think they should give a response to the 95% jobs adverts claim by Hotnigerianjobs.

Some of the links can't be accessed but for those who have access to the evidence should please munch the screen if using mobile app. Jobberman.com needs to be sued. Bloody opportunists!, making their own money at the expense of jobless graduates yet fail to fulfil legal obligations as an organization.

Hot Jobs, i think it is wrong to lay false comments that cant be proven. I have clicked on all the links posted by you and there's nothing to prove your claims. Yes maybe you were not smart enough to know that you shouldn't publish the links, which shows that yet still, they are smarter than you guys which you have also affirmed.
To every other person that have been clamoring that they ask you to pay subscription, its a choice, you can either pay or not pay. some banks also have this strategy, some banks dont do retail banking, its a choice, so you can either bank with them or go to you 100 naira deposit banks. Let me ask you, the days when you had to walk the street of Lagos, dropping your CVs, how many of you trekked from your house to VI, didn't you pay public transport fare? what was the percentage of interview invitation you got from the number of CVs you got?And for those of you who said you have applied and not gotten jobs, maybe you need to pay the subscription to read the testimonies from those that have gotten jobs through them, i know of one. How many career fairs have hot jobs organized for you guys? How many jobs does hot jobs get directly from employers or do you guys want to say you dont scrape jobs. Everyone na coded thief, na the one wey they catch in the act be factual theif

Why is Jobberman trying to rip us?

I was surprised at jobberman's desire that job seekers should begin to pay for jobs they post on their site. I wondered why a job seeker should pay for a job there is no guarantee he would get (especially since he does not even have the job that would fund the cost of the payment). Afterall Jobberman has the financial capacity to source for job adverts they post.
After much deliberations within myself, I concluded that if it is business, then it should be business. I mean, afterall it is not that expensive anyway...

With this however, All (my) love is lost for Jobberman!!!

I'm glad I got this opportunity to say this: My brother sent his CV to jobberman and he got a text inviting him for an aptitute test/interview. When he got there(somewhere in Egbeda) the venue was a shabby room where he met other people who were also invited. As soon as the test paper was given to them(with the name Health Stream Alliance) written on it, a guy started shouting. He said he had been called to three different venues by this same organization and that they were thieves. He wanted to know how they got his number. He made a real big fuss and called them criminals and walked out of there ... More than half of the people that came for the interview walked out with him. My brother remained and when they got the test paper, the questions asked were "so not it". After that, they were told that they will not be able to employ everyone..Then they were called to a face to face interview. There they were asked to pay N8,500.00. He said he looked at the guys talking to him and practically begging him to pay the money... Saying they were affiliated to World Health Organization and would get them licenses to be health officers. My brother was so angry. He said he put in for a computer science job and here they were practically pleading with him to pay 8,500.00 for a non-existent job, coupled with the fact that they were speaking terrible english. He just walked out of there. How can people be asking graduates looking for a job for money? N8,500 at that... And to top it all up, he got a text from them yesterday to resume today for training...When no job had been given or anything. They are really in need of that 8,500. Silly beggars! Please people should be aware and not fall prey to such things. If you go somewhere in search of a job and are asked to pay money, just walk out.

While Jobberman might seem to some, a scam website because they charge, we should look at it objectively. They charge because prior to this time, employers were paying to post Jobs, but in order to make it very easy for people to gain access to lots of jobs they made advertising free for employers. So employers and companies can post as many jobs as they want. They therefore started charging job seekers, so as to be able to run the business itself.

Jobberman is a jobs website that get jobs directly from companies and also aggregate from other sites. Almost all if not all job websites copy jobs from one another to meet their target audience' needs. So, what's all the fuss?

I know it is a waste of time and resources filing legal suit against jobberman. HNJ should know that rising to the top vide bullshit will never keep anyone at the top, so if jobberman attained her current status vide other individuals/agency hardwork, they are bound never to retain such enviable position forever. Law of nature will soon put them to where they belong unless they repent from the acts of reaping where they had not sown. Hot Nigeria Job,, please keep up the good work. The Lord is your strength.
