Job Title: Program Coordinator
Location: Abuja
Job Type: Full Time
Duration: 1 year (Renewal subject to availability of funds)
Job Summary/Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Program Coordinator performs functions related to planning, design, proposal development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of activities for projects managed. The candidate will match program activities with the logistics and financial requirements to create an enabling environment necessary for carrying out all project activities including meetings, trainings, research, supportive supervision and stakeholders’ engagement.
The program coordinator is responsible for managing two ongoing projects:
The “Targeting the Current and Next Generation of Parents to End Female Genital Mutilation” project which seeks to inform and involve existing youth networks in the movement to end FGM; and enhance the capacity of health care providers on social change communication to become advocates and promote the abandonment of FGM; and
The “CLADE Project {Community Level Advocacy to End Child Marriage}” which seeks to contribute to the reduction of the practice of child marriage through advocacy, engagement with religious leaders, community sensitization and youth engagement to generate discussions and stimulate efforts towards ending the practice and by promoting girls’ education as a way of delaying the age of marriage.
Job Description
The position reports directly to the Program Manager, and requires a Nigerian resident in Abuja with strong leadership, managerial skills, proposal development skills, a high level of independent action, and a focus on innovation and strategic direction in capacity building, social and behaviour change communication and significant understanding of female genital mutilation and child marriage in Nigeria.
Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as the primary contact for all information and requests for technical or programmatic assistance for new or ongoing Active Voices’ activities in Nigeria •
Provide strategic leadership and set technical and programmatic priorities for programs to ensure they are evidence-based and responsive to the needs of target population •
Work with the Senior Management Team to ensure successful management, technical, programmatic and financial implementation of programs and grant awards.
Provide direct technical support to ongoing programs as needed
Ensure that Active Voices’ project management approaches and tools are utilized in the management of projects.
Lead development of grant proposals and work plans including budgets and modifications as required.
Lead process to proactively identify and document risks that can negatively affect program deliverables, and develop strategies to mitigate risk
Review projects’ work plans to ensure that they advance the program’s overall strategy, meet key deliverables to achieve project objectives and adequately define work that is achievable within the given time frame and budget.
Ensure that all projects have strong monitoring and evaluation plans and comply with Active Voices’ best practices
Ensure that all research and learning activities are compliant with review and approval processes of Nigeria’s human research ethical review committee.
Represent Active Voices in professional circles through meetings and conferences.
Supervise program and administrative support staff.
Provide oversight and support to Human Resource Management and ensure appropriate orientation for new staff
Qualifications and Skills
Key Competencies:
A minimum of a university degree or its equivalent in Public Health, Nursing or any Social or Health Science related fields.
Understanding of NGO's operation, best practices and market trends
Proficiency in the use of the Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point programmes is essential Understanding of local communities and culture in Nigeria.
Experience in community engagement is essential
Intermediate research skills
Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, incl. excellent spoken and written communication, presentation and networking skills are essential
Evidence of ability to think strategically; to express ideas clearly; candidate should be able to demonstrate a sense of cultural and gender sensitivity.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team.
Creativity, attention to detail and efficient delivery methods.
Good leadership skills
Additional Advantageous Competencies
A Master’s degree in Public Health or related fields
Experience working on projects promoting the abandonment of FGM or Child Marriage
A strong commitment to development and humanitarian service
Knowledge of Graphic Design - CorelDraw and Infographic Development.
