We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Community Mobilization Assistant
Location: Borno, Maiduguri
Position Overview
Knowledge and understanding of Action Against Hunger mandate, humanitarian principles and current programs.
With the program manager, develop coherent messages and send to the community about the missions’ mandate, program objectives and approach.
Build trust between the AAH and the community.
Specific Objectives
Identification of key community members and training of community health volunteers.
Ensure the supervision and monitoring of the implementation of active screening activities by the health facility staffs in the first phase of the program (detection of cases, referral, and follow-ups). Once this phase is over the community volunteer will do passive nutritional screening.
Assist in the supervision and monitoring of the implementation of home visits of beneficiaries by community actors for follow-up of non-respondents, defaulters and potential defaulters
In collaboration with the community volunteers and as needed the health facility staffs, mobilize the community for nutrition activities (detection of case, referral, follow-up). Active screening in phase one of the project which proceeds to community volunteers implementing passive screening in the second phase of the project.
Support the community volunteers in the building up of the community mobilization network system in communities and follow-up implementation of activities
Implement community health groups (CHGs) (according to methodology)
Ensure outlined participation in the CHGs by all registered participants.
Draw an action plan after every CHG session, and follow up this action plan at the beginning of the next session.
Involve community volunteers in the CHGs.
Follow up the community volunteers and ensure public health promotion in the community (a wide variety of activities according to the identified needs, for example one-on-one, bazaars, screening days, school groups etc.)
Qualifications
National Diploma in Health Information/Health Education/ Community Health Extension Worker certificate or other related qualifications.
He/she must have experience in CMAM and community mobilization.
Minimum 3 years work experience in humanitarian contexts, with at least 2 years in conflict/insecure contexts.
Previous experience in CMAM and community mobilization.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Ability and willingness to frequently travel to villages and stay at the field.
Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating
Working conditions like long distance walking to screening sites.
Capacity to supervise and coach health workers.
Ability to work in an environment where there are physical discomforts associated with change in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust or dirt.
Excellent team, budget and project management and representation competencies.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Microsoft Office Skills (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word).
Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.
Fluency in English.
Commitment to AAH mission, values and policy.
Resident of community area (LGA) of work, networks within community.
Proficiency with local languages (Kanuri, Fulani).
Previous NGO experience in managing mobilization in different interventions (i.e. cash transfers, wash, Nutrition).
Previous experience with AAH.
