We are recruiting to fill the vacant position below:

Job Title: TA Child Protection Emergencies Specialist - Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC)

Purpose of the Position
  • The overall objective of the post is strengthen the case management of child protection cases for conflict affected children, with a focus on unaccompanied and separated children, to ensure more effective identification, assessment, safe supported and alternative care places and tracing and family reunification.
Key Expected Results:
  • Output 36: By 2017, the capacity of key institutions and civil society is strengthened to monitor and report violence against children especially in humanitarian context and implement gender and age-appropriate prevention and response measures in at least three states.
Major Tasks to be Accomplished
  • Review the status of UASC case management and data to identify the strengths and gaps in the existing UASC programming and develop recommendations to address the gaps.

  • Based on the review recommendations, lead the capacity building of relevant stakeholders, including training of partners to carry out UASC case management, including identification, documentation, reunification and follow-up of unaccompanied and separated children with a focus on newly accessible areas in Borno State.
  • Expand the network of alternative care placements, with particular attention on provision of care for high risk children (e.g children associated with armed groups and children born out of sexual violence) and train partners on the alternative care in emergencies arrangement.
  • Strengthen the implementation of Child Protection Information Management Systems for UASC.
  • In consultation with the State Ministries, child protection agencies, communities and children, develop and implement a minimum package of services for UASC in Borno and Yobe states.
  • Supervise and provide technical support for national consultants on UASC.
  • Ensure UASC response, including data and service provision is included in the child protection inputs for UNICEF internal reports, External reports, donor reports, advocacy and communication messages.
  • Identify current risks for UASC (e.g. trafficking, child labour, exploitation and abuse) and suggest potential responses to mitigate these risks.
  • Contextualize inter-agency guidelines and forms into practical program guidance for child protection actors in Borno and Yobe states.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate

Education:
  • Master's Degree in Social Science, Social Work, Social Development, Child Development or related field is required .
Work Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in child protection programming, with at least two years focused on child protection in emergencies.
  • Experience in developing and implementing systems of identification, documentation, tracing and reunification of unaccompanied and separated children in armed conflict context, knowledge of BID guidelines and alternative care in emergencies
  • Experience in developing and delivering training, including on unaccompanied and separated children and alternative care for children
Language:
  • Fluency in English is required - both oral and written.
