Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is recruiting for the position of:

Job Title: Programme Officer, Small Arms
Reference: ECW-COMM/REC/SAU-P/001/2012

Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Department: Political Affairs, Peace & Security
Directorate: Political Affairs
Grade: P3
Annual Salary: USD 36,901 - USD 44,469
Supervisor: Head of Unit, Small Arms

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with the coordination and monitoring of Member States activities through their National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW);
Develop and maintain close and regular contact with National Commission on SALW;
Submit regular reports on the activities on the National Commissions on SALW;
Develop and maintain close and regular contact with relevant CSO’s and NGO’s working in the field of SALW;
Assist in the analysis and dissemination of information regarding the problems of SALW in the sub-region;
Assist in preparing all relevant reports of activities relating to the implementation of the Moratorium/convention;
Conduct any other that that may be requested.

Qualifications/Experience/Skills

A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in the Social Science preferably in Sociology, Political Science, International Relations, Security Studies or related fields
At least five (5) years cognate experience in Regional or International Organizations
Possession of a higher degree may substitute for two years of professional experience
Must be fluent in one of the official languages of the Commission; English, French and Portuguese. A working knowledge of another would be an advantage.
Candidates should not be 50 years old or over at the point of recruitment and must be a citizen of one of the ECOWAS member states.

I really commend ECOWAS for helping to drastically reduce d high level of unemployment in Africa. I would have love to apply for one of the jobs available but my area of discipline is not stated. I studied Biochemistry. I just graduated but i have been working since before i gained admission into the university and i have had a 9 years working experience now. Is there anyway you can help me with a job? Kindly help me, please. Thank you.
