The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) - No fewer than 4,000 ad hoc staff would be redeployed from other states to Anambra State for the conduct of the November 18 gubernatorial election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said. The INEC said majority of the ad hoc staff, as well as security agents, had undergone training and were ready for deployment. The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, stated this during the Election Management System (EMS) Implementer Workshop in Awka.
He further disclosed that the over 6,200 card readers needed for the election had been tested and were working effectively, saying the configuration of the cards would take four days to complete.
The National Commissioner of INEC in the South East, Professor Okechukwu Ibeanu, represented by the Technical Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Professor Bolade Eyinla, urged the participants to take the training seriously, describing their role in the exercise as critical in determining its outcome.
On his part, the Project Manager of the European Centre for Election Support, Mr. David Le Notre, pledged continuous support of the organisation to elections in Nigeria to guarantee good governance in the country.
