Job Title: Gender Based Violence Project Coordinator
The purpose of this role is to provide technical guidance on Gender Based Violence in Emergencies, support gender analysis during projects design and ensure standard and procedure of managing Gender Based Violence in Emergencies are followed by Case workers and CP/GBV Officers.
The post holder will directly supervise GFFO project GBV/PSS Officers, Data Management Officers and Community Engagement Officer in the Mubi Field Office and overall management of the GFFO project.
Key End Results and Typical Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Field Team and CPiE Specialist, the CP/PSS Officer will be responsible:
Contribute to the review, assess and update of the Child Protection and Gender Based Violence situation in the Adamawa State.
In collaboration with CPIE Specialist, support to conduct issue specific or general needs assessments as necessary, and contribute to assessments in other sectors.
Organize and support the community partners involved in the recovery process.
Support potential partnerships identification to implement CPiE and GBViE recommendations, assess potential partners where available or make recommendations on how to fill gaps.
Technical Skills:
Provide technical and management leadership to the CPiE and GBViE activities in accordance with best practice and Plan policies, including its child-centered community-based approach.
Ensure that solid case management, referral and information management systems are in place for appropriate identification, responses and follow-up for Gender Based Violence cases with a particular focus on Sexual Violence cases.
Provide guidance to the project team on the development and dissemination of key behavior change communication messages on Child Protection and Gender Based Violence including harmful cultural, traditional norms and practices in line with best practices
Support the project team in developing strategies to engage men and boys as champions of change in addressing Gender Based Violence and violence against women and girls
Ensure regular communication with CPiE Specialist to integrate appropriate Gender Based Violence in emergencies priorities in program design
Ensure the [CP and GBV/IMS] is set up, regularly updated, analyzed for trends in the caseload, and efficiently and confidentially managed in collaboration with the Data Manager [and relevant partner organizations (e.g. UNHCR, UNFPA, OCHA and UNICEF)].
Support the design and delivery of training on Child Protection, Gender Based Violence, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Case Management for project staff and local partners.
In consultation with the CPiE Specialist, develop tools for delivering psychosocial support to women and girls including survivors of Gender Based Violence and Unaccompanied and separated Children and children at risk.
Make frequent field visits in the project communities to ensure and monitor implementation of activities, identify and report to Field Coordinator and CPiE Specialist opportunities and constraints and any adjustments needed
Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of Plan Child Protection and Gender Based Violence activities and draft recommendations for improved program development and program design.
Ensure proper follow up of all referred cases to other actors and report accordingly;
Ensure child protection policy of Plan International Nigeria is respected and all concerns reported.
Collect data and reports from the CP/SGBV Officer, Community Engagement Officer and Data Management Officer, prepare and submit on bi-weekly reports to CPIE Specialist the
Staff Supervision & Development:
Directly supervises GBV/CP Officer, Community Engagement Officer and Data Management Officer
Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit and providing oversight and guidance to enable staff to successfully perform in their positions.
Ensure timely completion and submission of regular program and staff reporting and annual performance reviews, as appropriate
Assist with the recruitment of Child Protection and GBV staff.
Ensure training, support and ongoing capacity building opportunities for volunteers and staff on technical and project management skills.
Provide evaluations on staff performance in accordance with Plan Policies and Guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience
B.A or equivalent in Social Science, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Human Rights or related Degree desired, Master level preferred
At least 3 years’ experience in leading Child Protection and or Gender Based Violence programs, preferable social work or case management, in humanitarian or development settings
Strong Knowledge of the Minimum Initial Service Package for Gender Based Violence in Humanitarian Emergency and Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action
At least 2 years direct experience leading Case Management services to children at risk and victims of abuse, exploitation and violence, providing gender-sensitive and child-friendly counseling services, and/or developing/implementing referral pathways and case management systems
Previous experience supervising and managing a team in a cross-cultural setting
Demonstrated experience in capacity building and mentoring of staff
Previous experience in emergency preparedness and response planning
Experience working with case files and databases and providing regular supervision of UASC and Gender Based Violence documentation preferred
Experience in grant management and proposal writing preferred
