Adexen Recruitment Agency is mandated by an Oil & Gas Group to recruit an Operations Manager (Shipyard) for its operations in Nigeria.
Job description
The Operations Manager will have the responsibility of all ship repairs work, support and administrative functions needed to support ship yard operations. He/ she is to be involved in all technical aspects of the project from start to finish. He/she is to report to the General Manager
Responsibilities
The responsibilities for this office shall include but is not limited to the following:
The Operations Manager is responsible for ship repair and services, development of annual budgets; establishing plant and departmental goals ensuring compliance with all safety, quality and Company directives. Responsible for the direction of affairs pertaining to safety, personnel, production, scheduling, material handling and quality
Assistance of the Commercial Manager/Project Manager/Ship Manager in the completion of their duties by offering possible technical solutions to he client/in house technical
Management of the production process from start to finish ensuring that correct process were used and standards maintained and enforced at all times
Ensuring the vessel drawings and specifications are available and sighted and review so that any repairs are commercially/ technically sound
Ensuring that the Contractors follow the same standards in repair to prevent the Company being exposed to criticism and liability claims
Organising of regular meetings with Production Personnel for updates and any problems that would affect the Commercial Manager’s agenda and rectify the problem
Working closely with the Commercial Manager to ensure the activities to be carried out is agreed upon so that the invoice can be raised
Provision of Assistance in the commercial contracts with major clients/JV’s to ensure technical consistency and feasibility of completion in the available time as well as offering the Company’s input, controls and actions- for the Company’s benefit
Ensuring the maintenance of the correct amount of materials required in order to meet expectations- also to assist in the Purchasing /Stores department in the selection of materials and items
Identification of key items of machinery that are in need of replacement with a “payback period “ and a justification report-Along with sourcing the item a guide for the Purchasing unit to acquire
Working closely with the Facilities unit to ensure that they are fully aware of any equipment issues and also to veto any all other inter-divisional charges
Ensure that the Company’s ship yard comply with Nigeria’s QMS and to maintain the procedures, instructions and records as required by Class. For both the QMS and for floating dock standards/ TDM as required
Assist the Commercial Manager in the periodic review of the Company’s tariffs
Ensuring that all client concerns/ complaints are reviewed and acted upon as necessary
To exercise initiative in order to improve the process and projects and inform General Management of any suggestions as well as cost implications
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of 10 years experience as a ship yard manager or other management level responsibilities in a heavy steel manufacturing environment, Oil and Gas background
Must have an in-depth knowledge of all business functions associated with ship yard management
Strong competency in Microsoft Office tools
Must have a strong facing background with previous experience of dealing and presenting information to major clients on large projects
Must be able to implement continuous improvement strategies across all functions, including the ability to introduce needed change, create excitement for change and lead change initiatives. Must be adaptable and open to new ideas
Must be able to multi task activities
